I read todays newspaper articles recapping last night's results.

The judges insist AI is not supposed to be a popularity contest, it's a singing competition they say.
NOT.

Jasmine did well. Hawaii posted at least 4.3 million votes which was up 500,000 from last week. Not sure what % of those were for Jasmine. AT&T wireless and text message numbers are kept secret.

Hudson was a top vote getter one of the weeks but also has been in the bottom three.

I guess it is pretty much a week to week thing. I wouldn't assume that anything is predictable.
Who's doing all that voting anyway.

Next week the theme is Latin tunes from one of my favs:

Learn more about MSM

Did anyone else notice that Paula Abdul's right arm was in a tight sling on tuesday and that her right thumb was wrapped up in a white bandage the next day?

Turns out she is a victim of a manicure went awry causing a deep infection near the bone. She needed to have surgery to remove her entire right thumb nail. She said "I almost lost my thumb".

Yikes! I thought she injured her shoulder rollerblading or skiing or something.

Paula and cute little dog

Maybe she thumbed Simon in an impolite place.

OK, I've been playing gloria songs all week in preparation for this weeks AI episode.
Unlike for Barry Manilow, I own and often play all seven MSM/Gloria E. albums I have.
Looking forward to hearing some latin tunes sung with energy but I am wondering what song John Stevens will pick.
Lets hope for some good performances.

Hey, I got a new cordless phone with a teeny redial button.
It's gonna get a workout tuesday night. I think I can call in every three seconds.
Hmm, that would be a maximum of about 2000+ calls.
I might get a blister on my redial finger.

Oh well, live dangerously.

Tonight the finalists sang Gloria Estefan songs with the Miami Sound Machine band (awesome band!).
Wow, what a treat for them. I can't say that I really liked some of the performances as much as other weeks.
I tried to vote but someone else had their finger on the redial button tonight.
I hope they got through more than I did and that they were voting for the same person as I was.
We'll find out tomorrow.
Did anyone else think that John Stevens wasn't at his best?? No comment.

Looks like there was a glitch with Verizon Hawaii and votes were down by several hundred thousand! Looks like Jasmine may be in trouble.

Next week's theme is Big Band music. Diana and Latoya should do well. I'm not sure how Jasmine, George and Fantasia will fare with this genre.

Tonight was a bit different. We got to see more of each finalist and heard them sing without having to vote.
I thought it was a good change. My kids are getting tired of AI. Good luck to them all for tomorrow.

Each of the final 5 got to sing two songs.
Competition is going to be tough these last few weeks.
Interesting to note that each person has been in the bottom three at least once even though the judges obviously favor certain singers. America voted and this week it will be down to four.
Tune in tomorrow to find out.
It was pretty hard getting any calls in tonight. What did they do? Pull out the extra phone lines?

Ditto.
Some cut the lines tonight. Sugarbear.

Took me 42 minutes to get through twice.

I heard on the radio this morning that over 4 million calls were attempted in Hawaii and about 1.1 million got through.

We watched the show tonight and no surprises it was George and Jasmine in the bottom two.
The judges were correct in picking the top performers.

America voted and George said goodbye. I give him credit for not finishing in the top 32 yet he made it into the finals as a last minute alternate and kept the faith. I felt midway through he was gaining in strength and confidence and was a front runner for a few shows but he fell off the last few weeks and lost momentum.

To me, he's like a William Hung that can sing. Good luck George. Looking forward to seeing you again.

Next week the final four sing disco with Donna Summer?

This saturday if you're feeling better we'll invite you to sing on centerstage at Spring Fling 04
to the lively tunes of Donna Summer, the Bee Gees or K.C. and the Sunshine Band.
It's just a warm up for your early training for Ameican Idol 4 next season.
Next year will be the year of the "bruddah", err I mean brother.

You have got to be kidding me! You mean you're going to have energy after spending all day at the track in the hot sun? Forecast for the weekend says the tradewinds are gonna be non-existent.

Of course if there's going to be a MINI Karaoke night I may be interested.

No not me. I was volunteering you. But you're right, if we get scorched in the sun all day we will be toast.
There goes my wind factor advantage if the forecast holds! Bring a fan, plug it in.

No, not after trackday but if there is enough interest then maybe some other night.
Who has it at their home??

AND NOW. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Here's an article about how the idols are doing this week and Hawaii participation in the voting.
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/ar.../il/il02a.html
Quote:
The (Hawaii) call attempts (4.7 million in 2 hours) mark a new in-state high for the third consecutive week. Verizon Hawai'i also reported that 1.1 million land-line and AT&T Wireless voters whose calls are channeled through the same cable got to the "Idol" voting bank Tuesday night. (Since text-message totals are not revealed by Fox or AT&T, there's no reading of that voting pulse).

Impressive numbers, yes, but maybe not as impressive as these tidbits:

* In October, Trias was merely one of 86,000 Idol hopefuls just hoping to get a chance to sing in front of Simon Cowell and America.
* Last night, her odds of becoming the next "American Idol" went from astronomical eight months ago to a legitimate one-in-four shot starting next week.

In other words: wow.
----------
I think if Jasmine (or any other singer) wants to survive the next round she has got to kick butt with high energy and a killer performance.

Only those who don't play it safe will go on from here on in. You'll have to earn your place at the top each week.
If you can't do that, then you don't belong in the final three. Good luck to them all.

You must be reading the reviews. Shame shame.

Well I watched and it wasn't pretty.
I thought diana stole the show and caught up with the so called leaders.
Jasmine wasn't her usual self and will have to wait till tomorrow to learn her fate.
It won't stop me from voting.
Nothing is certain, you just have to give it your best and hope for miracles to happen.
Remember it isn't always the winner who is the winner.

By the way did anyone else get the AI season 3 CD?
Hey Camile did a great job with her song as did Jennifer Hudson and Diana.
It's pretty nerve wracking to sing live. Ask Mariah Carey or Barbara S.
Stay tuned America.
