I notice that the rubber hose that connects to the PCV valve has become oily. Made an appointment to MINIHawaii to look at it. Does anyone have this done in Hawaii. Is this a warranty fix?

George,

Eric (Helix) noticed I needed it too. I am waiting for my 10K (which is coming up) to do it. (bgrpph) and (minihune) had it done for sure. BTW, how long ahead do you have to make an appointment?

Called Mini of Hawaii this afternoon. Jesse (I hope I got his name and spelling right) scheduled me in this Friday.

I had other work scheduled and added pcv valve/hose to repair- showed shop foreman when i brought car in that hose was soft. They replaced the hose but not the pcv valve under warranty. the howling noise i heard has since stopped.

Just check your elbow hose on the top of your engine near the MINI label.
If the hose is soft then replace the PCV valve and hose under warranty. The valve can leak oil once it goes bad and that softens the hose causing it to collapse over time and that makes a noise.

It is a common problem to look for.

Really at 10k miles? Eric noticed I needed one too but I had about 28k miles at the time. It is warrantied and WILL be covered - from what I've read it's not unusual for the valve need to be changed at 20k-50k miles. Rather than bother with the dealer, though, I had Eric change it the following week (I'm only 90 minutes from Philly). He changed it for just the cost of the part which is under $20.

When Eric @Helix did my 17% reduction about a month ago, he also told me I needed a new PVC valve and hose. I bearly had 2000 miles on the car!!!
I`m waiting for the weather to clear, then I`ll take it to the dealer.

Paul.

hmmm, i'm gonna go check my car out. after the clutch work, my car had a LOUD howling sound...turns out the intake hose and clamps weren't connected. after this was fixed, the sound was noticeably softer....but i still hearing howling when i drive nowadays....

At the last MINI meet at Kakaako park we examined our PCV hoses and found more than a few that were soft and limp.
Don't forget to change them. You need those things hard and firm.
Hmm, sounds familiar in a strange way

Yes, that was pretty funny feeling each other's PCV hoses that day. Most were soft and limp and really oily! One of them just slid off the PCV valve. However, Minihunes was really hard.
