Oil on valve cover

Hi everyone,

I had oil on the valve cover on my r56 MCSa. The oil seems to be coming from the PCV tube on the right side that connects to the intake. I've read somewhere on here that there is an "o-ring" that seals the tube to the valve cover. When I checked I see no "o-ring" only the plastic clip and slots on the tube. If there is an "o-ring" where does it go? Also, where can I buy one? If this could be the solution than I'd rather try it instead of spending $300 on a new valve cover.

Here are some pictures of the valve cover and components that I'm talking about. I wiped most of the oil off, but you can see its getting pretty nasty where the PCV is.

I'm not sure about the o ring, but I believe the PCV is built into the valve cover (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and you may need to replace the cover to fix the issue. Here is a thread on NAM with some info. Updated cover 11-12-7-646-555 here.

Ahh I was afraid of that....thanks for the info! Looks like I should start saving for the cover. You think it'll be alright to drive for a while as long as I keep up with the oil?

You're welcome. This leak on the valve cover is more common than not unfortunately. I wouldn't go too long, but do keep an eye on your oil level and the leak until you're able to replace the cover.

I can verify there is no O-ring to replace at that connection. It is only the tube and U shaped clip as shown in the pictures.

Thanks, I'm hoping I can round up $300 soon enough. Might have to drive the death-trap-junker 1995 Nissan sentra for a while haha

pcv valve

Might it be possible to put an o ring on the tube coming out of the valve cover and then fit the tube and locking device on to make a solid connection? Only a suggestion that might work and save some money.

I was thinking of doing that, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to try. I'll let you guys know how it goes, I'll probably buy it Thursday.
