I don't know if this is already old news, but just want to mention that I made a call to Hawai Mini this week and asked for an upgrade to v.36 software. They scheduled me in right away. I asked for the cost and apparently it is under warranty.

It's probably not a good idea to change your software version unless you are having "stumble" problems. It's unclear whether v.36 does anything for the yo-yo in the MCS. If your MINI is working fine then keep your old software version. There should never be a cost for updating to the latest software version in the first 4 years/ 48,000 miles.

Good point. Minihune. I thought the v.36 would have "other" general improvements over my current version. With any luck, my Milltek exhaust would be arriving next week, and my plan was to install the exhaust and do the reflash right after. Now may be I don't really need to do the reflash afterall?

V.36 works for some, but not others.

I would love to see if this will help fix my stumble and my poor mileage (15 mpg average), but unfortunately my Service Advisor won't return my calls......Two messages this week....and even an email 6 weeks ago.....and I haven't heard back. I'll try again tomorrow with fingers crossed!

I think for you the .36 version software update would be worth a try. Keep calling the service advisor, don't give up. What reason would they have not to return your calls? Makes no sense! If it is still a problem then try the Service manager.

It may improve the stumble, but it still remains. However, I just filled up the tank of the CVT for the 2nd time AFTER the v.36 upload and mileage has dropped to 15 mpg! Yikes! I may as well drive the 540i since it gets better mileage than that!

My car went in for the software upgrade yesterday. When I picked it up...my car felt much different. Not sure how to explain the difference. My MINI doesn't stumble anymore....and I filled up my tank this morning, so we'll see if there is any improvement.

Can anyone explain to me what a Yo-yo feels like.....(please refrain from any silly comments.) I'm thinking that my car does that yo-yo thing, but it's hard for me to explain what it feels like. Is it like a jerky feeling when picking up speed or when shifting?

Drive in stop and go traffic. Watch your speed and if it is stop and go @ 10 mph, you will feel the car yo-yo. It's really disturbing asit feels like the car is bucking.

For the yo-yo, most owners report it in a Cooper S on decelerating in 2nd or 3rd gears at about 2500 to 3500 rpm. It's like a hestitation /jerkyness. I have tried to get this to happen with my MCS but no matter how I try I cannot reproduce it. Some MINIs have it while others do not.

Let us know how your mpg looks after a few tanks using the new .v36 update.

Yes....I've experienced the fricken yo-yo....it sucks. I get it when driving under 10 mph. I thought it was because I'm not stepping on the gas hard enough....so I would take my foot off altogether, and it would become worse before stopping. Then I tried stepping on the gas harder....and that would Undoubtedly make it jerk even more. (Maybe this is why I've been having vertigo lately....it's due to the whiplash from all the yoyo). My car will also yoyo when I shirt in a higher rpm.

I still got some sort of stumble....much less frequent, though. As for my mpg....at 3/4 tank yesterday, I had only traveled about 55 miles. I'll give it a few weeks and see if it improves. I'm starting to think it's the way I drive....EEK!!!

Once you update the software it will take some time for the changes to take full effect.
Don't worry about the mpg just yet. Give it some time. If the yo-yo persists report it to the dealer so that they know what is being helped by the v.36 update.

I can usually get over 100 miles in a quarter tank. I don't think it is how you drive. Heavy urban traffic isn't the best though. I drive mostly highway miles.
