Sometimes I just want to scream.
I love my old Mini, but sometimes it makes me want to scream... then again, it's ME that usually causes the stuff that makes me want to scream.
Changed out the rear wheel bearings this weekend. Got the new Yokohama A008s mounted and balanced. Was allllll set to come out and race this Sunday - until I managed to put the wrong lug nut in the wrong place - and whammo. Snapped a wheel stud. GRRRRRR! I can move one of the wheel studs from the front end back there 'cause I'm swappin to the disc brakes and they already have all the bits on 'em.
Just had to vent.

... and after you've taken out the snapped one, it's So much fun getting the new one in place ... !
... i've got a few extra new ones (in three different lengths) if you can't find a spare anywhere else ...

Thanks 8ball, but this is for a 1971 Mini. Sorry if I forgot to mention that. Replacing them isn't all that hard. Pop off the hub and whack the everliving crap out of it with a hammer. Assembly? Put the new one in, whack the crap out of it, and put 'er back on
...if I don't mangle the threads that is!

yep - i've the studs for the Classics ... and if you position the hub just right, you can remove and replace without even moving the brake shoes (i had a spare lugnut-and-spacer contraption to pull the new one into place ...)
Had a tire shop do the same to my '67.
Only they broke 4 off of the same wheel, yep all of them.
Then pulled one stud from each of the other wheels & hoped
I wouldn't notice that I only had three per wheel.
Be careful out there~

Sorry 8ball - still wakin up here.
You can remove 'em with the hub on? I tried and tried but couldn't get the things out - and there was no way the extended studs were goin in without the hub comin' off.
I'm converting from the twin leading shoe drums in the front to the Cooper S discs. Hopefully this week so I can get out there and race this weekend. Then again, I don't have the Cooper S rear wheel cylinders, so it's a gamble as to wether or not I'll be lockin' up the rear wheels when I stomp the discs.
Then there's the lugnuts themselves. I ordered a set from MiniMania and ended up having to cut the shafts down with my dremel - and then found that the stud can't go all the way into the "head" of the lug like the ones that came with the car. Oh... what fun. lol

oh, yeah - the extended studs do require that the hub be moved - what thickness spacers are going on (stock cooper S rear drums, or just adding spacers) ?
I have stock (short) studs, and really long ones (they came with Super MiniFin drums: about 1.125" longer) and new lug nuts (threaded all the way through!) , as well as long chrome 'dome' cosmic nuts if you're worried about appearance ...
If you need anything, PM me and I'll put 'em in Priority Mail ...

right now I've got the S type spacered drums all around. The lugs I've got now just barely come "out" of the wheel (ROH Contessa - an Aussie Minilite clone)... and the lugs are this kinda "shank" type I was told.
I'll e-mail ya pictures of what I've got right now.
