hi hawaii MINI friends,

just wondering if anyone is interested in having a mega group buy on MINI stuff (and hopefully receive a nice discount in prices and shipping)?!! i tried to buy a bunch of stuff from the clearance sale at minicooperparts.com but they ran out of stuff before they reached my order.

if anyone is interested in ordering items such as the chrome trim for tach/speedometer/shifter, rally lights, arm rests, console organizers, etc (anything else?), please let me know. i'll see what the interest is and then approach some of the vendors to see what their prices are.

or, if you know of a place where we can get things discounted, that will work too!!

A logical extention of this group buy concept is to form a Mini of Hawaii club officially and have an officer or duly appointed representative approach a vendor for a quantity discount. Collect the orders from the group and place it as one very large order that is delivered to Mini of HI for example then everyone can pick up their orders at the next movie meeting or club meeting or at prearranged times.

This group discount could be a benefit of belonging to the group. If we set a $10 annual fee then we can offer a newsletter- electronic of course, discounts at the dealership-maybe, discounts for organized group buys from participating vendors-maybe. Is there a liability issue here? Probably not if we say you should take problems directly to the vendor.

Normally on MCO the group buys are sponsored by a vendor but limited to sale of at least 10 units of a higher priced item. Since the vendor can order the part in quantity from the distributor there may be some discount or if the vendor can make a sale of 10 or 20 then he may be willing to take less profit than on a single sale.

Unfortunately the implementation of a group buy is easier said than done right. Delays and and lack coordination of info and billing is full of errors and hassle. If you are in no rush and don't mind a few mistakes then it isn't bad for a discount of sorts. Shipping to Hawaii eats up most of the discount so beware.

I must be approaching $1000 in shipping with all my orders for my MINI.

mini-t,

Are you suggesting this mega group buy for all of MCO or for just the Hawaii MINI owners?

Count me in, mini-t.
It sounds like you fit the bill for an officer of the Hawaii club to seek vendors for group discounts ( as suggested by minihune)

I also missed out on the clearance sale from minicooperparts.com. Just ran out of stock before my order could be filled

in addition to springs...how about rear swaybars? madness, etc. whichever can offer the deal. not really sure if one is better than another. since we got h-sport springs, is there a related swaybar from same manufacturer/dealer that can get us a better deal?

count me in for parcel shelf x 2

rear swaybar - either alta or h-sport, although i'm kinda leaning toward h-sport even though it's more expensive. madness...i've been reading some threads where guys are saying they're getting some rub on their springs and stuff with some version of madness. not sure which one. plenty guys got madness, but still i'd rather go h-sport or alta.

is anybody into brakes at all? i hear that changing brake pads will cut down plenty on brake dust, and therefore keep our rims looking nicer longer. most everybody talks about the ebc green brake pads.

chrome trim for tachometer

center console organizer - there's 2 basic types. a mini bucket and a shelf, kinda like the glove box shelf/organizer. i'm leaning more towards the shelf type, although it's about $50-$60 vs. $30 for the bucket.

sorry, this is so long. just bringing up my personal wish list of things that sooner or later i intend on getting.

The stock pads are really dusty. EBC is good stuff as are the other performance pads such as Metal Masters, Mintex and Pagid. What you have to do is choose a happy medium for the type of driving you do. You don't want a too hard compound as it will chew up your rotors. Too soft a compound will wear quickly and dust badly.

As for changing pads, it is very easy to do and should take you no more than 2 hours for the entire set, front and rear. If the car is up on jackstands and all the wheels are off, the pad change, front and rear, can be done in less than 1 hour. If you push it, it can be done in 30 minutes. And that is a one man job! If you had two guys, it would be even faster.

I'd also be interested in a a little decal for the "null" switch on the control console. One of the MINIs I test drove had an "invisibility" sticker placed above that unused switch. Do we have any options there? I would love to put something above that switch. Of course, I don't know if a parts store would carry little stickers ...

Coming into this a little late but I'm also interested in the glovebox organizer and the center console shelf pocket.
I'm assuming you're approaching several vendors to find the best deals, no? 'Specially with the shipping cost to Hawaii

BTW, much mahalo for all your efforts

a couple hawaii MINI owners have inquired about the alta pulley group buy. right now, i'm not sure who has the best price but we probably want to contact the low price vendors and see what they can do for 5 or 10 orders. minihune, did you have a pulley party interest list? we should figure out how many people want this and then work on getting the price. i'll start the thread.

Please also put me down for a center console organizer. That's the one that goes behind the cigarette lighter, right?

hi all,

thanks for listing your group buy interests. we are slowly tackling each of them. so far, we've done something for the euro parcel shelves and h-sport springs. organizers and pulleys come next.

i've been having some difficulty reaching people via PM so i've set up a new requirement for the group buys. in order to participate, you must send me an EMAIL at minigroupbuys@hotmail.com (NOT A PM!!!) containing the following information:

1. your name
2. you requests
3. your phone no/pager where i can best reach you

this will better enable me to contact you should emergency things arise or to set up pick up and payment (as not everyone sits at their computer all day and PM's don't always work).

thanks for your cooperation and understanding

aloha,
mini-t
