Nov.11 Veterans Day Car Show (Hawaii)

The Veterans Day Car Show & Picnic is set for Sunday, November 11, from 11 AM to 2 PM, with set up at 10 AM.

The event is to support the homeless veterans at the US Vets Center at Kalaeloa. The shelter provides transitional housing for homeless veterans as well as abuse treatment and employment training. The days event will be to let the veterans enjoy looking at our cars and to provide and serve them and the staff a picnic lunch. The cars will be on display in front of the housing (former barracks) for the veterans to enjoy.

The Aloha Mustang & Shelby Club will provide awards for the veterans choice.
Lunch will be hot dogs (grilled on site), potato salad, juice, chips and specially decorated cakes. We are asking club members to assist in the preparation, serving and cost of the food. The Aloha Mustang club will pick up the food so we need a head count of those attending (we all get to eat as well). You can bring your own tent to set p on the grass. Folding chairs are encouraged.

In addition we are asking entrants to bring some of the need supplies for the veterans. Some of the items they can use are:
1. paper products: towels, tissues, paper plates, toilet paper.
2. cleaning supplies: wipes, brooms, sponges, cleaners.
3. toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, razors, shaving cream, but NO mouth wash (because of the alcohol), hand and shower soap, laundry soap powder (no liquid).
4. Games: cards, Frisbees, bats, *****, board games, puzzles.
5. gift certificates; Longs, Safeway, Ross, other Kapolei area businesses; $5-$10 for use as prizes for Center activities.

By the way, the car show is an incidental display for the Picnic. We are there to support the veterans. It is not a day for trophy junkies. But it is a chance for not only the veterans but all of us car nuts to see each others rides in the day time. So come for the fun as well.

Parking is limited so please chime-in (if you haven't already done so on the HMMC site forum) to let us know you will show up. I think there should be off-site parking as Kalaeloa has a lot of open space, but I am not sure how close you will be to the events. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

The following local car clubs will be represented :
Aloha Mustang & Shelby Club of Hawaii
Hawaii MINI Motoring Club
BMW Car Club of America, Hawaii
Brittish Car Club Hawaii
Corvette Car Club of Hawaii
Hawaii Performance Mustangs
Porsche Club Hawaii (?)
Miata Club Hawaii (?)
Independent Cruisers

I just got an updated final list of the car clubs attending :
Aloha Mustang & Shelby Club of Hawaii
Corvette Club of Hawaii
British Car Club Hawaii
Hawaii MINI Motoring Club
Hawaii Performance Mustangs
Independent Cruisers

70 registered cars (I registered 15 cars - yikes!), 100+ people attending, and only 55 stalls (we'll be double parking so you can NOT leave until 2PM). There is additional overflow parking for others.

More details posted on the HMMC Forum : http://www.hawaiiminiclub.org/forum/...t=508&start=75

Check out this morning's (11/9/07) The Honolulu Advertiser's page F1 - there's a little story about the U.S. Veterans Initiative/Hawaii car show. The only problem is they called us the Mini Motoring Club of Hawaii instead of the Hawaii MINI Motoring Club.

Thanks to all that attended today. Our small little force did great! Big props to minihune for bringing boxes and boxes of soaps and lotion (not to mention the toothbrushes and floss too). The folks at the place were really happy to receive the twenty-eight $5 K-Mart gift certificates we donated too.

There are some photos posted on the HMMC website forum.

We enjoyed some good but a bit hot weather.

The Mustangs were out in force (new Shelby, GT500, Saleen, and custom (nearly all chrome engine).)

Missing in action were Miata club and BMW club.

Original Cobra was neat (daily driver too), 79' Triumph Spitfire, Rolls Royce, new and vintage corvettes, etc.

Parking lot was mostly full but at least we had ample space. They are planning to have another next year.

Glad to help the veterans.
