GP Hood I/C Ducting

Could somebody tell me the visual difference between the GP I/C underhood plastic duct and a normal Cooper S?

I ordered one (P/N 51 13 4 404 668). The tag on the sticker has the right number but the duct has no visual difference to a regular one. Also the stamped plastic number (in the mold) has the regular number (5113-7155597-AI04)

I think I have the wrong part in the bag....

Would anybody be able to pull theirs and get back to me with the number (top of the duct - hood side)

Thanks in advance!

Thanks MOTORN, much appreciated!

I think I found the differences. The ribs at the back (facing down) have been shaved so they won't interfer with the cover. Woopty-doo!

Waste of money....

We all do it, It's how we learn. Just be thankful you
didn't accidentally buy a short block.

minimarks, the JCW GP duct and the standard duct are not interchangeable. The GP IC cover mates to the GP duct and will only fit the GP IC. The standard duct will not mate correctly with the GP IC cover. There are many more differences besides the trimming necessary to the GP duct’s mounting brackets. As examples, on the standard duct the brackets are longer, the foam is routed differently, the plastic is a different composition, and the diverters are positioned differently. The GP’s IC cover is much thicker and more rigid than the standard cover. The advantages in design for the GP IC are not confined to the extra rows but extend to the cover, duct, and most importantly the synergistic integration of the components.

K-: That's what I thought and why I bought it. Unless something changed, it doesn't appear that is the case.

I'v attached comparison pictures (STD vs. GP). The red circles indicate the shaved ribs. (Please don't mind the foam; it's a work in progress...)

Yep, shaved to clear the larger cooler. Mine is shaved more on the drivers side.

Well fellows, my standard duct does not look like those photos and will not fit the GP IC cover without moving the foam back over the bracket ridges to clear the rear most capture hood. Perhaps the later model duct will fit without much modification.

The early model air duct (ended 10/2004) part number is 51-13-1-473-014.

I puzzled over this a bit when I got my GP intercooler parts, and came to the same conclusions as K-huevo (the sealing foam is about 1/2 inch further back), but I have an early MCS. I think there are some differences in the hood lining on later/GP cars to the early MCS, as I had to trim a corner on the GP ducting to fit with my hood liner & make relief cuts into the section where the rubber blade fits for my early part blade.

I can confirm the later model underhood duct will fit the GP intercooler. The GP part number has the support braces/trusses trimmed and that is the only difference. Actually, a better trim job can be performed by the user than the misplaced OEM attempt.
