Is waving dead??
Here in Kitsap county in the great Pac NW we wave like crazy fools all the time! And if there is more than one of us in our car we have to yell out; MINI!!! But I have to admit, I am a pretty focused driver and often miss out on recognizing that Cooper coming at me at a combined speed of 100mph (our country roads are posted 45mph). So if we miss ya, don't feel bad. We'll wave next time. Oh yeah, we also leave a lot of "you were spotted" PSMINI.org Club cards under windshields in parking lots. That's fun too!

Living in Los Angeles, I think I mastered the wave. I wait until I see the driver, use my judgement and then wave. So far, the sucess rate of getting a wave back was around 95%. So, if you "know" who would wave you back, then you wont feel rejected if the other driver (not the motorer) does not wave back... It might be more difficult in other parts of the country, but it is waaaay too easy to find people who matches stereotypes in the LALA land
I think I've seen that one on the 202 before. Not too many Silk Greens out there. Obviously another Valley resident here.
See you around maybe. I guess we'll both be waving.
Since getting the car I've seen several minis around town. One Saturday we counted six just between our house and the mall. I have only gotten one wave... from a nice LY that shared a stoplight with me. Everyone else ignores the waves... well except for the guy that gave me the finger... he was doing about 95 mph during rush hour and everyone was getting his signature "wave" from him if they dared to be doing only 70 in the 60 zone. I can do without that kind of wave.
I think that many people are not enthusiasts, they are just drivers.

If I ever see you, I promise to wave and grin!!
I drive a LY MC...we LY owners must be as cheery as our cars!!
Seriously though, whats wrong with a nod and a smile?
As more of these fine cars hit the road, more of them are just considered just a transportation appliance by their drivers. A nod or a smile is good for me.
I wave nod & smile.

Too Common in Atlanta?
I have yet to see a way here in HOTLanta - but then, there are a *lot* of MINIs in-town.
On the other hand, when I'm out visiting my fiance in the burbs, about 20 miles outside town, everyone waves. Of course, there are only about three MINIs in Kennesaw...

i am new to mini cooper alliance, and few days ago, a nice young lady waved at me. i was kinda surprise but i was also nice enough to wave back. it was nice to see someone loved me for who i was and not for what i was driving.
Rock-on-the-Waves!!!!
making someone feel good is what we ought to seek for with our mini-alliance.

That being said, I think I will start waving.
so far every MINI I've made contact with has waved (or nodded and smiled)...that's batting a 1000 for me. I guess the trick is making that SOLID eye contact....but who's to say, people can be moody.
I waved to a guy in a silver MC to on the 101 just east of DTLA. I think he kinda waved back, but I was passing him at the time. He later blew by me while I was stuck behind a big smoky pick-up.
I wave is just showing loyalty to the car that we all enjoy. If I wave to somebody on the road driving a fellow MINI and he/she doesn't wave back I just assume either there new to the car or the really dont care about motoring and just use it a transprotation vehicle.
A MINI is more than an automobile, its a lifestyle. By showing your respect when you drive by a fellow Mini by waving a hand is just a friendly way of saying "Happy Motoring" and that makes driving a Mini so much more than any other car on the road.
The only other vehicles I know of that uses waves are bikes and semi trucks. Have faith people the wave is not dead!
