Yeah Bill, there are all the same. I got that directly from Todd in the media department for Butler, Shine, Stern and Partners (Mini's Advertising firm in California) this week. He did say that was this months gimmick, kinda lead me to believe there might be other secrets coming later.

Call me obsessive (because that's my middle name) but it would be interesting to check EACH of these mags to confirm that fact !!

Bill
Heehee Jerset_Bill and GBMINI, that's probably just what MINI's advertising folks want to hear!

Seriously, though, what a great advertising campaign! I'm a sucker for things like this - scavenger hunts, puzzles, etc. and will buy things like magazines or books if they're part of a game or puzzle that requires you to find a hint or clue from them. Though if I'm feeling cheap I might just flip through the book/magazine in a bookstore or the library

Hopefully I can pester the people at MINI or my dealership to send me out one of these kits as well! I want to decode things..

The advert is the same - but how do you REALLY know the message is the same without your box ??????? I just don't give up....

The "magic window" thingie takes a lot of manual manipulation to line up the message correctly - and there is no darn way to look at the hash in the ad and make sense out of it.

If I were running this ad campaign, I would be throwing out three or four different messages taking people in different directions but maybe having them eventually end up in the same place - wouldn't cost much more but perhaps would make it more mysterious and thrilling for people doing the quest.

Oh well - in the end this was great fun and a great community builder.

Bill

Ok.....I gots me box the other day in the mail but hadn't had time to check it out. So I open it and I'm like.....ok...there's only one place to go and that's NAM! Search and find this thread. Such a fun thread! I read every post! (Don't let that get around.)
So's I offed to B&N for a Blender, got everything together, wow I was really bugged trying to read the message. As I see it bumper pool was a lot easier and a state sticker would really help with holding the decryptor down within the five seconds you have.

Now, how do we find the next ad? Same mags next month?

Oh yeah, if you wanna see what the add says...look here.

Does anyone know if us Canucks get this "package" from MINI... I did some stuff after I bought my MINI, but those mailings have since ceased it would seem.

I suspect the answer is no. MINI Canada operates independently from MINIUSA. This is evidenced by the fact that Canadian MINI VINs do not work to register on the MINIUSA Owner's Lounge (for example, if you wanted a Motoring ID).

Look at the bright side though - you guys get some pretty darn cool advertising of your own - just look at the "Dominate Winter" campaign!

Wow...when I started this thread a week ago I figured someone would give me the answer within ten minutes. I never imagined a week later there would be 220 posts, folks searching for boxes and magazines, and still nobody spilling the beans! I am still waiting for my box...

Man, whoever said that this makes one feel like a kid again got it right. Got my box yesterday, found a Blender today (wonder if MINI USA gets a cut of the extra 150,000 issues being sold...), decoded the message and followed the trail to the end....

I have only one piece of advice for those that will follow this trail ....

*** turn your pop-up blocker off ***

There seem to be at least two more legs to the journey - I can't wait !!!

This is just too much fun !!

-- calming down now --

Bill
setting the pop-up blocker to "accept pop-ups from this site" didn't
work for me (on AOL), I think you have to disable it completely.
got everything to work on a computer at work, however.

now waiting for the next two legs of the mission.

btw -- nasty beegle, huh?
(don't think that counts as a spoiler)
