Well, the sites are not supposed to be public. Posting them publicly kind of ruins the game for those of us that enjoy getting a copy of the ad, decoding it, and finding the goodies.

Of course, no real harm is done, but we have so little in our lives that is mysterious like this and I just think it is fun.

In the long running black box thread, I was the first to post that I had decoded the message, but was careful not to spoil it for others.

At the least, maybe we should wait until the next ad comes out before we make the previous one public?

I actually believe that posts in the OT forums should not count towards your post count... because they aren't MINI-related. And yes, I post in OT (and OT:Autos) as well, so it would affect me too... although nowhere near as much as it would for some others!

Why do I believe this? Because you aren't really "motoring towards 6th gear" if you're talking about the weather or some other non-motoring topic!

I agree with Yucca. The black box thread actually kept the link a secret for a long long time before someone posted the spoiler. Part of the fun of the whole event was that you had to make the effort to figure out how to get to the websites. It's not that hard to swing by the magazine section at when you're at the grocery store and find out the website yourself! Now anyone can hop on there! It is nice for the people that haven't gotten black boxes though. Although that problem would be solved if all the people that got 2 boxes would just send one to someone who hasn't gotten one!

I totally agree with this ... my GBMINI "reveal" didn't reveal the secret but was just a teaser which I think is so much more in line with what the campaign is supposed to be about.
Don't know who asked Gabe to run the spoiler, or why - but he didn't make much attempt to disguise it either

Maybe the reason for publishing it is to gather another set of MINI owner names & addresses ...

After some consideration, I have merged the Minispy/toggle thread into this one, to reduce the accidental "spoiler" problem.

Ohhhh I see. I'm just ahead of the game. Now I want to pick up one of those mags and decode the website myself. Though I already signed up for the shweeeeet stickers.

But is the eventual target of the quest working yet? I get to the first site but the second refuses to open. I suspect they are still working on Round Two...

Not sure what you mean by the eventual target - but both the first site and 2nd site DO in fact open up to something.... I think you are talking about the www.minispygear.com link?

LOL - trying not to give anything away here (no spoilers from Jersey Bill) - sorry for the eliptical references. Yes, I get to the first site but the second one crashes on my system with both Netscape and MS browsers. Yes - all pop up controls are off.

I will try again....

If you're running Norton Secutiry - I had to disable pop-up blocker there also to get in - I also had to wire direct to the modem instead of through the router, but that's another issue.

Good Luck

Anyone who's hung up over post counts is spending too much time online and not enough time motoring.

So I used the next decoder piece on the ad in the new MINI2 magazine and it's the same thing as the last one. Why isn't it something new?

And I was just looking at one of those ads in my October 9 issue of The New Yorker and bemoaning the fact that they never sent me a decoder. Guess I'm not actually missing anything? (Already put in my VIN from the first one, and can't wait to get that prize....)

The first one (the one with the roof decoder) was an ad for MINI Takes the States, and a PDF for bumper stickers.

The second (the one that had holes punched in the shape of a MINI on a card) brought you to a page to receive the toggle switch cover.

Hope that helps!
