Well out for a fun drive. Hit a pothole and I knew as soon as we did we were done. Drove about 2 miles into a small town. Nothing open and the Walmart no chance of having a tire. Read up that you can drive no more than 50 miles at no more than 50 mph so we tried to drive 15 miles to a friends place. About 2 more miles and we were on the rim. Now waiting for a tow. Will start carrying a spare for now on during these fun trips.
Yeah as I was waiting for 2 hours for a tow I already ordered the spare donut. I am going to replace with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s
wasted an hour with AAA. They said it would be an hour. At 55 minutes they called and said they had no one in the area that was working and I needed to call a tow truck and they would reimburse us. Next guy was great but was another 45 minute wait. Completely stupid.
I was thinking to completely change up the set up and get new wheels and tires but I think I am going to keep the stock wheels and just switch out the tires.
I switched out my runflats when I saw a bubble forming. Honestly, I was lucky to make it almost 2 years since NJ roads aren't the smoothest. I figured it was time to switch them out. I'm a big fan of my new tires and added a donut (from Way Motor Works) + scissor jack (from Harbor Freight). I haven't had to use them yet, but I'm happier with my new set up.
I still think it's crazy that you can't get a spare kit when you buy the car.
I don't mean to blame the victim, but ultra-low profile tires just don't have the space to absorb a hard pothole hit. Runflats can only do so much when they're wrapped around those huge (but gorgeous) JCW Circuit Spoke wheels. There is literally only 3.2" between the outer edge of the tire and the bead seat. Subtract another half inch for the bead wall to keep the tire on the wheel and that leaves… not much. Maybe 2⅝" of deflection before you hit the rim?
Looks like some beautiful places to drive … that old covered bridge is pretty great!

Reason: I can't math.
Yeah no worries. Not trying to be the victim. It was a big hit. Not sure any tire would have survived. I just thought runflats could handle a few more miles driving on them while flat.
Going to replace the tires. Thinking about 215 40 18’s. Looks like folks have done that on the stock wheels and they fit.
Going with Michelin Pilot Sport AS. I have done the 4s before and liked them. Could get the 4s plus we get some rain here (a lot in the next week:-) ) but shouldn’t lose too much performance.
Also went to 215 40 18 in stock ride height. Seems like folks have no issues with that size. For now keeping the stock wheels. I still like them a bunch.
I had a love/hate relationship with the runflats. Twice they allowed me to get home after a blowout. On the other hand, I had two blowouts in less than 4 years -- the only two flat tires I've had in more than 40 years of driving. And, of course, there's the terrible ride quality. None of our cars have run flats now.
First mod on most any MINI should be swapping out the runflats, IMHO. You will be very happy with the improvement in ride quality once your new sneakers are mounted. By any chance, are you in Vermont?
I wanted the 18s, but I wasn't going to lock my car up during winter if we got a dusting of snow. The tire options in that size are limited
Yeah no issues here. I have a different car as a DD but I get it.

I got the one from Way Motors. They said it works you just have to mount on the rear. I will test fit before.
Yeah, that's usually that's how those work. If you get a flat in the front, then you'd have to pull a rear wheel and move it to the front, and put the spare on the rear. Two tire changes instead of one, but better than nothing.
MINI is Mrs daily driver and over the years have gotten her HOME vs being on the side of I-95 3 times ........ she don't give sh@t about performance ....... getting HOME OTOH . . .
Just put a new set of Bridgestone Driveguard on our 15 R59

Same here. Using Driveguards on my 13 R56S and they saved me couple of times already.
Both times was able to drive quite a distance on them not just with puncture but a tear.I appreciate the fact I don't have to be changing tires on the highway shoulder, or under pouring rain.
Did you bother to get one that fits the jack receiver cup, or, maybe a flat topped one and you are going to supply the "hockey puck" to fit into the receiver cup? I'm in the same position...looking for a jack. So many of the BMW's have a similar receiving cup, that surely one of those will fit...the question is: which one?
