R56 - Brake light code - A8B6

Greetings all,

I have the following error on my 2012 Cooper S,
A8B6
and the internet searches match it to "Right brake light faulty". However, it is top rear left (driver side) brake light which does not work. Will the code go away once I replace the left light Bulb? This seems a bit odd to me. I see a lot of videos on repairing the right bulb on an R56. Does anyone have a link to left bulb replacement?

Thank you!

No idea why the code indicates the wrong side, but the bulb replacement procedure should be the same for both sides. I pop the external trim ring off and remove the screws holding the tail light to the car, much easier that way versus going through the access panel. Also, the sockets are known to melt on these tail lights, so you may want to look into replacing the black portion that has all the light sockets in it if yours are melted or heat damaged. I think ECS has them.

According to this site, that code is for the left brake bulb:
https://bmwfault.codes

My guess would be replace it, and it should go away.

Thank you, njaremka

Yes, the top left brake bulb was intact but the socket had melted, I had to remove the entire assembly, painfully take apart the socket without breaking it, used a paper cutter to shave the melted plastic and reassembled everything with a new LEDarto get it working. I would like to thank a youtuber here, the link to the video is -
I reset the light warning in the car dashboard display, still had to to erase the code using an OBD-II app, I hope it does not appear again as I am overdue for inspection.

Thank you!
