Cat **** Smell from AC Cabin Air - Cured

Hi,

I wanted to share that when I turned on the cabin air blowers I got a distinct smell of old cat ****. At first I thought a dog has pissedon the wheel or something, but the smell remained for some days.

It was easily cured by running the cabin air at maximum temperature for 20 minutes. I switched between the various settings like air recirculation and outside air. After this the smell has gone away.

So unfortunatly some days later the smell returned strong as ever!

Can anyone tell me the best way to get in the ducts and or heater core / evaporator for cleaning?

I tried to take the top dash vent off by removing the two torx screws hidden under the caps but it still doesn't want to release. I thought I'd stick an inspection camera down there to find the main mould source.

Not sure what year/model you have but you could check your cabin air filter if you have one.

I think the reason you didn't get a response to your first post is that everyone with any experience knew it was 'too good to be true' but didn't quite know how to tell you. If you can't find the source of the odor, a good auto detailer can probably help you out.

Have you replaced the cabin air filter? Look for one with a carbon core if that's an option for yours.

FIRST, change the cabin air filter .... a MUST do

do you know where the cabin air intake is?

I'd check here for smell

do you park your car outside at night? Has a cat fallen in love with it?????

I'd go to the cabin intake area and check for smell/dried urine .... CLEAN the area and then with the car running and fans on HIGH shoot a good part of can of FEBREEZE in and keep the fans on, with windows open, for 15 to 20 minutes . . .

You can buy AC sanitising spray that has a nozzle which you can fire down the intake beside the battery with the filter removed. This stuff kills bacteria and mould on the condenser and cleans up the internals. Excess just runs down the drip pipe out the bottom of the car. Search Amazon.

Probably a dead mouse inside the cabin filter area
