So I bought the Schwaben Scan Tool... Review and Q&A
I might have overlooked it in some of the post, but will this reader work on other vehicles than BMW/Mini? I own other non-BMW/Mini vehicles and was wondering if it would work on all of them or just my Mini?
Yes, its a regular scan tool for other vehicles, like the P codes. Emission, CEL light codes. Just does not do Make specific code like it does for BMW/MINI.

Sweet! I was hoping that was the case. I'm assuming that I can download other software for it for other makes and models to make it function similar to how it will for my Mini? I've got Toyotas in my fleet as well and it would be nice to have at least similar functionality with them as I do with my Mini
Yep, you just buy another software package and add a Make. As far as a the same we had people add those and use if for more in-depth cars of other Makes. Most of the feature are the same unless its a Make specific thing, like I can pull up more things for a Range Rover with the software(installed) as the Range Rover Computer lets the OBD2 system read more stuff about the car and suspension where the older MINIs the system is more simple. More electronics and newer the car, more features will come up in the sub menus.

I've got an "orange keys" Schwaben tool purchased June 2018, and it will neither scan the VIN from my 2016 F55, nor will it accept the VIN entered manually, though what little else I've done it seems to do okay.
Anybody else had similar issues? Is the "white keys" tool physically different in any way, or is it identical once you've applied the latest updates from Foxwell (which I have, as of last week, which was an update from the update I did immediately after purchase. At no point has it been able to read or accept a VIN).
While I have been able to read a code, and apparently reset a vehicle check (the device said it was unable to do so; but afterward the "check required" warning was gone and service interval expected appeared set to a year out), this is not giving me a lot of faith in the tool. It also eats time when every time I feel compelled to say "Really? Are you sure we shouldn't give you one more chance to do this most basic task?"
Whereupon I wait several minutes for it to fail scanning, spend a few more entering the VIN to get that failure message, and then start by selecting my model... Thanks to this thread, I did try it with just the last 7 digits of the VIN today, but there was no difference.
It gives me the heebie-jeebies to be doing resets or think about doing things like activating the ABS to bleed and so forth when its unable to identify the car correctly. I should like very much not to brick my daily driver.

Did you update the unit? If not I would do so, if it still does not work on the scan shoot me a PM. I have the newest unit updated at my desk. Some VINs for some reason on the older software did not take. Once updated it worked, like the VIN data was missing some VINs.

”Supports advanced functions such as adaptations and control module coding”
is this control module coding able to program folding mirror behavior?
I presume it does not or there would be more excitement here.

For MINI it will not code items and features, it only does some modules that we found with BMW and some with MINI.
Does not change functions and features like Carista or NCS expert.
Its hard to have all in one tool for codding with a scanner as its like this MINI=Apple (closed platform) as VW/Audi = IBM (open platform) VW/Audi have it easy as they have tons of programmers.
If thing change we will let you know,
