Yes, its the limitation of the older MINIs, the system was more simple and not too many options. Like take an example the older MINIs only the dealer or hack software could code the options like DRL and such. But on the gen 2 MINIs its more open door and way more options open to the user like you can set DRL on the dash or the auto rain sensor amount. I can see the Nav on the Newer MINI and test the functions, but the nave does have more functions. The older Navigation was more simple.

After too much time online debating between ODB dongle with MAc/iPhone App, or stand alone scan tool, well, I decided to pull the trigger on the Schwaben from ECSTuning.

It's on sale so I feel better
I'm a bit bummed there isn't a Mac software though, but I'll just use the bootcamp side of things for now.

I hope they will do some software updates too.
It seems to me that sometime excitement is high in the beginning with all that a tool could do. And once the company moves on to the next generation, all the development disappears, crushing all the hope... I really wish they could add function coding to these units, since all the App guys are doing it.

But I digress. I think it will come handy in my future servicing...

I also got the maintenance manual so I getting ready for a long term relationship with the Roadster...

Are there plans to update the scanner for the F60 any time soon?

I have one as well and am quite happy with it. Between registering a new battery and saving me tons on diagnostics it has definitely paid for itself. But I too hope that they will add coding functionality with an update sometime soon.

Resurrecting an old thread to try and get some info.

Has anyone used this tool to register a new battery in a 3rd Gen F car? Trying to find the procedure for this because I can't find it in the book that came with the Schwaben Scan Tool.

Working on my '09 Clubman. Today when leaving the Dr. office the start button would not work, lucky for the big downhill driveway I bump started it. CWhen we got home I checked battery voltage, very good, checked the clutch switch, it's in place. So, I got out the Schwaben and it says CAS Fault1. Can we go any deeper into this to figure exactly what's wrong, or basically where do I go from here. I've been into fixing my own cars, bikes & trucks for over 50 years, even was a line mech. in dealerships back in the early 70s, but hate computers in cars. So, who can help?
Thanks
Rod

Hi,

Sorry to be a newbie, but could you please elaborate on how the Schwaben scanner can interact with the hydraulic/mechanical aspect of the calipers? Specifically, "retracts calipers for brake pad replacement" and "returns calipers to original position". Maybe it is a translation idiosyncrasy from the German to English?

I am of the impression that you need to use a tool to rotate and retract the calipers back into the bore on the rear brake calipers. I have a Gen 2 R55 and I'd like to understand what I'll eventually need to do to replace the rear brakes and reset the service interval.

Thanks in advance for your time and patience with this inquiry.
Rob

Hello,

Thats for the newer MINIs like F54 and F60 that have an electronic rear parking brake, Older gen 1 and gen 2(you have) have to use a mechanical hand tool.

I have the Foxwell NT510 and on my 2012 Cooper S Hardtop I cannot activate the ABS pump. It gives me error_ecu_rejected. I updated the firmware to the most recent version. Any ideas?

EDIT: reply from engineering: Sorry that our old device truly have this issue. we will improve it in new version product. So far, couldn't fix it. thank you.

My Schwaben 14020SCH
(Foxwell NT510) has worked
well on my 2003 R50 and my
2009 R55, but my wife just got
a 2020 BMW 2020 M240i
Convertible, and it the scanner
freezes when trying to read the
VIN and if I try to use BMW->
control unit -> body->convertible
top module (or any other category
under body, chassis, etc.), I get a
communication error message on
the screen.
Auto scan, OBD functions, and a lot
of other stuff does work.
I did update it to the latest BMW,
OS, and OBD versions without any
change.
I have a ticket in to Foxwell.

Ticket to foxwell was poorly worded and ambiguous.

"Dear, sorry that old product NT510 DO NOT COMPATIBLE with your BMW. if use, please use new version NT510 scanner instead. thanks

Thanks and Best Regards.

Further research indicates that their new NT530 is supposed to be compatible with 2018 and 2019 F-chassis BMWs whereas the NT510 and NT520 are apparently not.
Not sure if even the NT530 will work with a 2020 F23 from what I was able to gleen from the internet.

The initial promise of BMW compatibility followed by subsequent obsolescence just a couple years after I got the scanner is frustrating.
I'm reluctant to pull the trigger on an NT530 since its success appears to be a crap-shoot at this point.
Also, so far it has had 2/3 bad reviews on Amazon - one claimed that updates tried to install a Trojan, another said it took weeks to get it registered and up and running.

I sent a reply to Foxwell to clarify but that will probably take at least another several days for a response (and not sure the response will be helpful based on the last one).

ECS - what do you suggest for a scanner for a 2020 BMW F23 M240i that is hopefully also compatible with a 2009 MINI R55 (and hopefully newer MINI models looking to the future)?
Who else makes a good scanner supported for current BMW models??

2nd reply from Foxwell says the NT510 is not and will not be compatible with 2020 F23 models, and so far the NT530 is not either.
They suggested looking into Autel, but it's hard to find documentation on vehicle coverage for them and there are so many models.
Thinking of one maybe the MD808 or MK808 models, and after more research, will reach out to them for coverage questions.
Another option might be the Autophix 7910 (less expensive).

Looking strongly at the Launch
X431 Mini Pro or CRP429C for a good
tool that will work well with my
MINI R55 and also my wife’s new BMW
based on my last interactions with
Foxwelltech support regarding the latter.
