I get the instinct, but its pretty dangerous. That's what insurance is for.

I never worry about my car being stolen since hardly anybody knows how to drive a stick in the US anymore...

I never thought of that, but its true. Its a bit of a dying art. I know is some countries you have to have a license that includes a manual "endorsement." I think driver's ed should teach on manuals.

Are you guys trying to make me regret buying an automatic?
I spend 75% of the time at s standstill and the rest moving. Traffic here is horrible. My average speed on the computer reads 25 mph.

I haven't had an automatic in over 20 years. I also haven't lived near a big city in close to that long.

I've only (briefly) owned one automatic in 30 years of driving (even my family car, a Subie Outback Wagon was a stick) and I've only lived in big cities, Denver being the smallest.

Shifting is first nature to me, even though I'm often in stop and go traffic. Being in an auto (rental or GF's MINI) and I'm hitting the brake looking for the glitch.

It's a crying shame, most "sports" cars are crappy automatic, and the handful of sticks rear-wheel. I don't know what I'm going to drive after my MINI bites it :-(

Manuals are a rare thing across the board.

It's pretty true. Only cars I've owned were/are manuals. My mother made sure of that and said the reasoning was if I was ever in a situation where I needed to know how to drive one, I would know how.

Sports cars should only come in one option ......... manual!

I just shake my head when I see a corvette with an automatic transmission. I guess nobody ever taught the guy going through a midlife crisis how to stick shift.

It is a shame. My daughter can drive a stick and so can her mother, but the majority of my buds can't. It is a shame.

Really? Most of the time it's the other way around. I made a point to teach my little brother. Glad your daughter and her mother can.

I was also taught on a manual when I was 12. A 1946 ****** Jeep!! My uncle said if I could drive that, I could drive anything. So far....true!

Nice truck! I love old Chevys. My dream is to own a 57 cameo in coral canyon.

I agree unless you have a child or family member still in the car.

When I was mad at the Mini I had thoughts of giving a carjacker $20 for gas money to make sure it disappeared
