Modified MINI breaks the FWD Nürburgring Record!

Looks like this may not actually get put into the 'Official' record books since its not stock, but cool nontheless!

Here is a link to the story and video on Jalopnik

I wonder what this MINI's set up was? I wonder if it had a bigger turbo since it has 286HP? I see it mentions a Drexler LSD too. Also they stripped ~400lbs! But it looks like the whole dash is still there, so I wonder where most of the weight savings came from. Questions Questions Questions

Not even close.
This was a one-off race preped car.

For reference, stock R56 GP2 ran Nurburgring in 8:23. R56 JCW in 8:35 (vs. 7:44 claimed by this race car):

The only only commonality with an R56 is the outer shell and bottom end of the engine block. And a few interior pieces that weren't thrown away (dash).

For those shopping for fast stock FWD cars, consider this:
http://www.autoblog.com/2015/03/03/h...-record-video/

Honda Civic Type R clocks 7:50.63 front-drive 'Ring record.

I personally don't care for the Civic's looks, but it's quick, and it's now official:
- 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine, producing 306bhp and 400Nm of torque
- 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, top speed of 167mph
