Been hanging around reading - not posting - but enjoying the thread (thanks SG) But finally have something to say.

CR – you’ll appreciate and probably understand this better than most. Just hit 1200 – sooo now able to bottom the collective – turn the cyclic into the wind and most importantly give it full right pedal!

I love these cars pops burbles and turbo lag all.

Not that they need any more character, but the pops and burbles certainly tack on some more !

Enjoy going Full Throttle !

Vincent and Marvin (our 05 R50) both had baths this morning. Vincent is now sporting his new tags and they are quite becoming on him . Tomorrow might be a good day for a photo op.

Awesome ! Never did get around to taking new photos of mine this weekend. Going to have to share my horsepower-increasing mods pretty soon.

What's that bade on the right of your rear plate ? Appears to be a "do not enter" symbol.

Yeah, but those are small, so 2-3hp max.

damn... hope you got him just with a tire or there's almost certainly going to be at least a little damage. Unless it was a baby raccoon and no more than a few inches tall... in which case:

Just did another visual inspection: looks like the only damage was to the plastic piece hanging down in front of the front right tire (sort of like a backwards mud flap); it tore a little and pulled out the plastic tab holding it in place, but it snapped back in and looks good. Was planning on giving Chuck a bath tonight anyway.

It was a pretty big 'coon walking towards traffic on the white line, then just decided that life at home was too rough and scampered in front of me. I was able to swerve enough that it only hit the front wheel (thank goodness for light traffic at 4:45am)

I just picked up my mini (Chili Red S hardtop) yesterday. Great fun to drive. Going from a semi-worn out e30 to the R56 is an amazing difference.

What did your MA tell you about how to drive the car during the break in period? Mine said to just drive it like you normally drive it and to keep it at high rpm.

And just because I like to share:

My opinion? i certainly would not ask an MA about how to break-in this car. We have our first Mini and I scoured the forums for weeks before our car arrived and there were three things that kept jumping out at us over and over again regarding longevity of the turbo versions of these cars:
1.check the oil level every week religiously. maintaining the proper oil level is crucial

2.change the oil every 5k, which basically means I am paying for every oil oil change. I agree with this one, 10k is just too long per the on-board computer for a motor that runs this incredibly hot....those computer generated intervals will certainly keep the engine running for the 50k warranty period, but I want 150-200k out of this motor. Plus, we drive this motor as it was meant to be driven, which means most shifts at 5500 and above on a regular basis...paying $90 for every other oil change on a $40k+ car is cheap insurance, IMO.

3.BREAK-IN....follow the manual guidelines exactly is what I have seen over and over. the total break-in is 1200 miles and the first 300 miles regarding the brakes and clutch use are important.

Nice looking CR/White R56 !!

Agree wth the Pilot.... take it easy during the first 1200 miles. Stay under 4500-ish RPMs and 100 mph. Check oil frequently.

I'm getting my first oil change at around 3,000 miles just to be safe. Then after the first covered oil change, I'll switch to every 5,000 miles and pay for every other one.

My original plan was to do 3k, then every 5 after the covered one, but too busy the next couple weekends so might be just starting at 5k, but I also don't drive it very rough so I would think it should be fine. Plus as far as I can tell it's only burned off a little bit.

Thanks for the replies. I found the bits about being nice to it for the first 1200 miles in the manual after I asked the MA and posted here. The manual sounds more reasonable.

I had figured I would change the oil after the break in period and every time it reached a multiple of 5k miles on the odometer afterwards (either me or Mini doing it). Fancy synthetic oil and OEM/Mann filters are not that expensive compared to an engine.

As far as break in my MA said DO NOT exceed 4,500 RPM during the initial 1,250 miles. Currently I have 750 miles on the car in 10 days and abiding by the guidance given.

I kept that end of the bargain. I broke the "no hard acceleration" rule though twice. It actually says that in the manual. I've never heard of that though. Lana was begging for it though, so not my fault!

So I'm just sitting around today being sick, half watching all the car shows and racing on TV, and I got bored and thought I'd take another look at the Owner's Manual for my JCW. I found this gem in the section on Technology for Driving Comfort and Safety:

"The laws of physics cannot be repealed ..."

But that doesn't mean we're supposed to stop trying, right?

sorry to hear you're sick, Spa.

Not a football fan ? I've been watching some pretty good games today. Made a big pot of Chili and have had two bowls so far and the day isn't over. Going to regret it tomorrow, made a pretty damn hot batch this time.

As for the laws of physics, some laws become antiquated over the years. Why should those laws be any different ?
