Warranty soon to expire - what to look for?
I have one week left of my factory warranty and was wondering what work I might need in the future.
I have a 32,000 mile pre-owned (lease return last summer) ’08 Clubman S with an automatic transmission and I will most likely put around 3,000 miles a year on it. With that little mileage it really doesn’t feel right spending another $2,000 for another two more years of warranty.
My car has already had the new timing chain and rails work done, the aux water pump, and the sunroof motor replaced, plus some other small stuff before I owned it.
Is there anything I should have checked before my warranty is up?

I don't own an S, but my SA advised me to extend the MAINTENANCE warrenty which expires soon. He said between brakes, oil changes, etc. it would pay for itself, so i plan on doing that.
For you, it might be wise to extend the factory warranty as the S has inherent issues. Hopefully someone else weighs in on this...

For me to extend both warranties for another two years would cost me over $4,000. The brakes were done about 16,000 miles ago and I will do my own oil changes, as I have a garage and a lot of tools and time - I'm retired.
I believe most of the issues with my S have already been fixed under warranty and that the car will not be putting on that many miles in the next two years.
It's really a hard choice for me right now and I am running out of time.

If you aren't getting the rattle when ou start the car on colder days then it sounds like most of the major items were taken care of. You could always look over the maintenance records to see when if there were ever any issues with the high pressure fuel pump. Also, the maintenance records would be useful because some of those replaced parts may have a longer warranty.
No death rattle, the timing chain and chain rails were replaced about 3,000 miles ago. I had the MINI tech give me a readout of everything that was done (I'm the second owner) and it looks like a lot was already repaired under warranty. He also said the HPFP now comes with a ten year warranty so I’m covered for that. All in all I’m having a hard time thinking about forking over $4,000 for a two year warranty that will probably only cover the car for around 6,000 miles
The warranty should not run you that much. There are two different items available to you. One is the warranty covering parts to 100k miles or 6 years. Usually runs around $1500. The other is the maintenance plan which will extend MINI serving the car another 2 years and was on '09s and up. That one runs around $2K or so and probably wasn't available so 4 thousand is way too much.

The extended warranty - 6 years and 100,000 miles would only cover me for two more years when my original warranty is up and they quoted me around $2,300 dollars for that.
The maintenance warranty for two more years is also around $2,000 and would cover me for approximately 6,000 miles of use - all in all not a great deal to me.
I’m really thinking about rolling the dice because if I don’t have any issues in two years I’ll have saved over $4,000 for any unexpected repairs in the future.

I was just wondering if anyone thought I should have something checked before it runs out.
