FIND A LOCAL MOTORING BUDDY BY ZIP CODE
Sorry folks, I broke it this morning. I was adding more details to the user information, and I forgot to check if everything still worked first. I'm away from my development computer, using a wireless handheld now, and verified its broke, but can't do anything about it. LOL. It will be fixed by tonight. Sorry!!!!
You're welcome Donna & Mike! Thanks for signing up! It's great to see the registry growing! California has got the largest number of registrants so far, followed by New Jersey and New York! I know there are more than 91 MINI's in the USA.
Where is everyone??
Where is everyone??
oh yeah, that's a bug--something I haven't implemented yet. I'll email it to you.
==========
UPDATE

If anyone thinks this tool is worth having, please help spread the word. Tell your MA at your dealer, your MINI friends, and acquaintances! The more people that sign up, the more useful it will be to everyone!
I'm working on some new stuff that includes being able to search for registered MINIs by description, group planning and calendaring for help in planning runs, and ID's you can place on your MINI that bring up your profile. So next time you're motoring and see a cool MINI, if he's got an ID, you can enter it and get in touch with that MINI to go motoring!

OctaneGuy,
If you are fishing for suggestions I have a few:
Be able to view distance in ascending/descending order
View by Name, State, ZIP code (redundant so either/or State/ZIP) or date registered
Leave “Enter a Search Radius:” blank = show all users
Allow users to enter a short description of there MINI
This is just my two cents.

Thanks Ryephile! It can only get better!

Thanks for your suggestions. They are all good! Now I'm not sure if you know this, but you CAN see all users by clicking on the link that says:
There are 111 active registrations in 31 states (of course these numbers change all the time)
And that links to:
http://www.c3club.org/finder/showstates.asp
From here you can sort by NAME, CITY, or STATE by clicking the heading

Hi Richard,
I'm one of those MA guys whose zipcode was changed about 6 years ago. It appears that your zipcode database is out of date. Is there any way you could find an updated database for MA?
My old zipcode was 02158, and my new zipcode is 02458. When I input my old zipcode for the search, it correctly identified my city. Since several neighboring towns (but not all of them) changed the zipcode from 021** to 024**, it might be easier for you to find an updated database than to re-enter every single one of them.... Hope this helps!

Hey KatanaPilot-
I have a specific section link
http://www.c3club.org/finder/missingzip.asp
Just add the city and zip code that is missing, and I will update the database. So far I've added over a dozen new zip codes as people requested them. There really is no simple answer to what you are suggesting. I mean, I could opt to spend some cash to buy someone's existing database, or I can add the info from the public government database for free. Since this is purely a hobby for me, I'd rather not spend any money if I don't need to.
In my HELP section
http://www.c3club.org/finder/help.asp
I point out that I'm using a database that was provided to the public back in the early 90's, and the government changed to a new format for 2000 that isn't directly compatible.
So what I'm able to do now is when I'm given a new ZIP code and City, I can cross reference that info with the Census 2000 database, and find the correct Longitude/Latitude Info. Then I can enter all of that info into the database. It's not a fast method, but it should be accurate.
Thanks for your suggestion, and who knows, I may eventually get too lazy and just buy something, especially since I've got a baby on the way, in the next few weeks!

Nope you're not missing a thing. If you refer back to my very first post on this thread, you will see that less than 2 weeks ago, I started asking people to begin adding info to this registry, and that I was in the process of adding the ability to contact each other. Most of my time since then has been in killing bugs, and providing fixes to how information is being input. What I haven't released yet is the next portion that allows Motorers to exchange info with each other. So stay tuned!

Hi KatanaPilot
Oh it wasn't taken as criticism. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was upset or offended, as I wasn't. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome!!!
Thanks for adding the missing ZIP. I'll add it tonight, and feel free to submit any other ones that you might be searching for. I want this tool to be useful to everyone, so the more complete I can make it, the better.
As for saving me some work. Hey I'm ALL for that.
So let me ask you. Are you saying that 02158 no longer exists? Or does it still exist, but it was just split into two ZIP's?

According to the USPS website, 02158 no longer exists, replaced by 02458.
It appears that the western suburbs of Boston with zipcode starting with 021** changed to 024**.
Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville stayed with 021, while Newton, Brookline, Waltham, Needham, Wellesley, Weston, Watertown, and possibly a few more cities, changed to 024.
If you could search for all the cities with 021** and PM them to me, I can then look up whether they are 024 or not for you.

Thanks. I changed your own city to the correct ZIP and removed the old 02158. I did a search on my Census 2000 database and you were correct that 02158 is no longer listed. I will PM you a link to a script I wrote showing the cities you asked me about. Thanks a lot!!
** UPDATE 4/14/04
Thanks KatanaPilot. I just updated 18 of the MA ZIP codes thanks to your research!

Quick Update! We got 190 registered Motorers in 37 states. According to my database, there are atleast 12 more that haven't confirmed their registration.
I would love to include Canada, but I would need to locate a source of Longitude/Latitude coordinates of every city in Canada. This is publicly provided in the USA by the US Government. Currently everytime a person does a search on a ZIP code, it's searching a database of over 40,000 records. That's why it takes several seconds to pull up a listing. I don't think at this time, it's feasible to consider this option for Canada. Sorry!!!!

Oh well...
