You and me both. Between the sunroof and bluetooth/USB changes, I saved a ton by waiting an extra week to order a 2013 instead of a 2012!

The 2013 changes could have saved us a few $100 as we want the iPod and don't care about the Sirius. Though they're not starting JCW production until later in the year, so we'd have a very long wait.

I could have ordered a '13 configured exactly the same as what I have (w/ black leather/cloth seats because the red/black are no longer available) and it would have been $50 less than what my '12 was...

But it was definitely worth the $50 to get my seats!

I went with a 12 because I did not want a new engine with new problems. I'll let you guys test out the problems and by a new mini at the end of the next model change out.

Man, first they axe the blue, now the axe the red... Leaving beige, brown and black. C'mon MINI! Booooring!

The F series isn't launching until next year. The 13s are still the R series. I was worried about the same thing when the dealer told me mine would be a 13 but it's not the case.

Although, from what I've been reading about the new platform; it sounds really really nice.

Taking the exact same car, one a 2012 and the other a 2013, the 2012 will be worth ~$750 -- $1,000 less in 4 years than a 2013. So long as you don't pay a bunch more, waiting for the '13 makes financial sense. But armed with the numbers, you should be able to get the dealer to discount the '12 by a comparable amount.

How can I back up those depreciation numbers for the dealer? I'll be happy to buy a '12 if they make the price adjustment for depreciation and bluetooth which is now standard. But I'm getting B.S. like "Mini's hold their value really well & we have such a low inventory these will sell fast." (Actually - there are lots of 2012's available in SoCal!)

Thanks for your advice...

@ MalibuEmmy

With any car deal, if you don't get a deal you like be willing to walk. Mini of Morristown literally ran after me into the parking lot last year. You can always go back and take a deal that was offered earlier - no shame in that.

Go to KBB.com and do a price check on two Minis equipped the same, one a 2008, the other a 2009. Be sure you compare the same model, same milage.

The 2013 had the same N18 motor as the 2012. The F56 2014 had a new problematic motor. The 2013 had the bugs from 2011-12 worked out. Best year for the Gen2 N18 is... 2013
