To stripe or not to stripe that is the question?

I have had my mini for over a week now, 2007 mini Cooper s in Dark Grey.

I love this car!!!

I see a lot of mini's with the bonnet stripes and I love the look of them, but I am unsure if I should have those added to my car.

There is the $400 price tag to have them added, and I also wonder about what it will look like.

I also have the choice of racing stripes which go down the center of the hood or the bonnet stripes.

If I were to do it I would think I would go black stripes, the white would be to much.

Your thoughts?

IMHO, the wide bonnet stripes make the MINI look wider, and center stripes/narrower; black stripes would match the roof nicely. Check-out the "show me your r-56" thread for examples, I'm sure you'll find something in there. In any case, nice ride!

mine are from mightystripes and are unique. I like having stripes that have only seen on my car. Just keep in mind there are sites that sell strips if you don't want the ones by MINI.

I got mine from Mightystripes for $7.00 shipped off an eBay auction. Quality stuff, and installed them myself in an hour (most time was measuring). It's the car in my sig shot. $400 is beyond top dollar. For what I paid, you could drive around on it, and take it off if you don't like it. I think Mighty normally sells that kit for $28.

Edit: And yes, black stripes would be the way to go on your car.

I am in the exact same boat as you. I have the same color scheme on my 2004 MCS. I recently bought a set of black (with white sides I believe) stripes for next to nothing from fellow NAMer. I figure I will put them on, and can always remove later if I don't like them. I am new to MINIs but I have seen plenty of stripe kits on the web for WAY less than $400. Most have been under $150.

The price I was quoted is from a mini dealer and includes installation.

I would hate to screw it up.

It's not difficult, it just requires patience. Being **** would help too! I did my boot stripes and like a previous poster said, the most time is spent measuring and taping them in place before applying them. There's a lot of instructions out there on how to apply vinyl - here's the ones I followed, so you can see what you're up against: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-pictures.html

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...115-post6.html

If you get good quality vinyl it's a reasonable DIY project.

Mine has a set of instructions that came with. I haven't studied the instructions yet, but it looked to be something like cleaning the paint of wax, grease, etc then applying a soapy solution and removing adhesive.

My stripes were on the MINI when I bought it. They were put on by Astetic Creations, (Which is no longer doing the stripes I believe.) They are 2 layer, reflective orange on bottom, with the black centered. There are ghost flames in the bonnet stripes, and the whole vinyl top. I wouldn't have picked it, but I LOVE it! I know I've got a unique look, and I'm afraid I would've gone way conservative, and done just white stripes on the electric blue.
Stripes on a MINI are a dime a dozen, because they always look cool with stripes!
When your MINI gets its stripes, make sure you post some pics!!
Here's a pic of Bernie with her stripes:

I have decided to go with the black bonnet stripes front only.
I know I could maybe do it myself, but I want it done right so I made an appointment to have them installed tomorrow at 2pm.
My wife is away for the weekend so the timing is perfect, she will never notice!
It will cost $240, but it will be done and done right.

Can you get factory-like stripes (wide, close together) in white to apply yourself? I'm thinking white stripes might look better than black or silver on a British Racing Green II Roadster.

They had racing ones and the bonnet stripes. I could have installed them myself, but was afraid lol. Theses were $55 each.

The dealer installed my stripes right before I bought the car and threw them in for nothing since I didn't want them to begin with but I quickly grew to like them on this color combo. I soon had a clear bra installed over the entire front end of the car and it has kept them pristine and looking new, not to mention there's not a single mark in the paint (except for one pre-bra chip) in over a year of daily driving one one the most debris-ridden roads I've ever driven. (Windshield looks like hell, though - next time, that gets the clear bra material too.)
