Gender of MINI names?
Gender of MINI names?
Just curious, do most people who name their MINI's use the same gender as you are, do most pick female names like a boat or airplane, or does it matter? Just asking for opinions. I was thinking of a female name for my Countryman when I get it, just not sure if that was out of the ordinary or not.
My MINI's name is Bernie.
Most people think it's a Boy name, but I actually named her after my Grandmother who passed several years ago.
Name your MINI what ever you want. Part of the reason we all have MINIs is their personality. I wasn't sure for a long time if "Bernie" was going to be her name. Right after I named her, she needed all kinds of BIG maintenance. So, I wasn't sure she liked her name... I know it's silly to think my car had any thoughts on the matter, but I'm one of those weird owners that "talks" to their MINI!

My wife has eventually named about half of the cars we've had, but it usually takes a while for car to earn a name, and some never got named.
Maybe it would be better to wait until your new Countryman earns its name with you.

As far as I can tell, (and of course how inherently odd it is anyway to name a car in the first place, really), most owners don't seem to pick/bias the gender, the Coopers all seem to name themselves; let their pilots know both what gender they are and temperament they have
I know women who's MINIs are masculine and vice versa. Really odd thing (or cool?) most private owners who sold their MINIs that I spoke to about this particular topic in the past admitted they had told the buyer their MINIs name and the buyer said they liked it and were going to keep the name! When else does that ever happen with car buyers of other makes??? We owned Cary from day 1...by the time we were half way home Cary had let us know what his name was

Gary Cooper was actually his inspiration! I told my wife on the way home my chap was dashing yet dangerous, but a star like Gary Cooper. My wife said, "no, he's not a "Gary", he's not American, he's more refined, he's a Brit, he's "Cary" and it just clicked, she was totally right, that settled it. I just misheard.
Well, I only just ordered my car, but I've already got a couple names picked out. My first MINI was a 2003 Chili Red that I named Flea, both for its small size and after Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This new car is going to be a true blue Countryman with white roof. I'm torn between Smurfette and Lady Madonna. I'm kind of leaning toward Lady Madonna. I came up with the name because whenever I heard the true blue color mentioned, I would think of the Madonna song. I'm not much of a Madonna fan, but am a huge Beatles fan, and my band covers the song Lady Madonna by them. Kind of a convoluted way to come up with a name, but I kind of like it.
Can't say that I've named a car, but just after I submitted my order one of the first things I read about in NAM was to find a name for my Mini. It didn't take very long for me to settle on Sargent for the name for my Countryman... go figure that's coming from a career Navy guy!
I named my MCS Dougal. He's AB/AB with a red and black interior and growls a bit as I move through the gears, so he seemed like a guy to me. I think the appearance and demeanor of the car and how you perceive it should determine whether it is male or female. I would definitely wait until you've had it and driven it for at least a few days before you pick a name that suits it.
I have artistic skilz. So I named mine: Claude Monet, after the great French painter. His paintings were done by glancing quickly at his subjects - as if in a blur. And since that is how my MINI moves (in a blur), then viola! heheh
I originally gave thought to a female name, cuz washing the bonnet can be a very sensual experience! But didn't think the wife would understand

Funny that this thread would come up... When I first got my CB/CB '02 I was convinced that his/her name was Blackbird. Then when I posted my hello note "valvashon" said:
At that point the wheels started turning and after a few miles together he told me HIS name is Tux.
