Gender of MINI names?
Indi got her name a couple days after I brought her home, from buying privately. It might sound kind of plain, since that's her color, but it just kinda stuck when I said "Indi" out loud without the "blue"
My last car was also named after her color, not long after purchase. I think the only thing that kinda sucks about naming your car is that you get sooo close to it that it can get emotional. When I sold my first car, a 1998 Maxima (Sexii Maxii), I almost cried. And when I sold my 2005 Mazda3 (Sunny) 2 weeks ago, I literally cried. Needless to say, hubby was worried lol!
I love Indi, and she's really earning her name. She came with a nice quiet Reemus exhaust, and when I don't go fast, I can tell she's trying to goooooo and get that exhaust goin'
I love driving her

I bought mine used, but the dude I bought it from is such a nondescript white guy that I didn't even think to ask if he named the car. After giving the deposit I thought I'd go with Nigel, and looked up some female British names. After I had him, I started adding Rupert in to the mix, and that is what stuck. I'm a record producer and engineer and there is a very famous gear designer named Rupert Neve, so its also a bit of a nod to a great man in my industry.
Oddly, the only other car I've ever named was the only other European car I've ever owned. He was a '74 Beetle named George.

It took years and a second mini for my original R53 to get named. There's no question to me that they're both female: great curves, but a bit temperamental at times (without telling you why)
The first had a title: "the car of Theseus" since most of it had been mechanically replaced (is it the same car?). It ended up becoming Olivia because she's pretty Wilde.
The second R53, I just bought. It had a LOT of rust. I bought it on a risk that the warranty would work in my favor. It's a silver gray car, and given that she needed almost all body panels changed - She was named Jean Grey (Phoenix). The warranty work changed out 2 Doors, 2 rear Quarters, and the boot. She definitely rose from the ashes.

My MINI will be getting a custom license plate that says ALTANI. This is the name of our Papillon and comes from the name of Genghis Khan's youngest daughter. When we get a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, we will name it Mandukhai, after our German Shepherd, which was the name of a Mongolian warrior queen in the 15th century.

Still working on naming mine, struggling a bit to come up with something good. My F150 was crowned the "Big Red B****" going to be difficult to top that one.

I got two
My wife's Cooper is Chili Red. My son made the comment she was a hot tamale, so Mollie stuck with her. My Countryman I wanted a tough name. I searched the Internet and found Maximum Fightmaster. He's a Marine Drill Sargent. 😃😃😃
Oh! Same genders.
Oh! Same genders.
Aw, hamburgers! That is one aptly named Mini. Wow!
Had my R53 for about 5 months, it's still gender neutral with no name. Not enough time to get to know it yet. My dad has had his R50 since new in 2002, no name on his either. I think he has decided it's a girl, however.
We got our Mini only on Saturday, but my wife and oldest daughter immediately started trying to think of a name for the car. Our previous British cars all had typically British male names, like Nigel the Range Rover. The first candidate name was Graeme, from the movie Paul, but that didn't quite work.
Next was the idea was to match the Indi blue color, so Blue from Blue's Clues came up and was quickly dismissed.
But then my daughter said, "Clever girl" and we knew we had our name, from Blue in Jurassic World.

I've never named a car, but have always referred to them as "she". Like planes and boats. All these mechanical things are "its" of course, since replication can only take place through a third party, usually on an assembly line in some factory.
My kids named a couple of previous cars though, and the names stuck. One was named "Midnight" and the other "Precious". Midnight was black, and Precious was gold-ish, but was the least expensive car I had ever bought.
Will work on the Mini naming thing. Not sure yet. Maybe I'll farm this naming process out to the now adult kids? "Blast" comes to mind as a very usable name, since the Roadster is a blast to drive, and could be also useful if, as I've heard can happen to Minis from time to time, it develops mechanical issues. Blast! The Mini's broken again!
Definitely hoping that second usage wouldn't ever be needed.

I've heard that cars should be named after/treated as women. But my old '94 Plymouth Sundance Duster was definitely a male-ish driving buddy rather than a female co-pilot. Corsair for the MINI could work either way, and would be cool as a female pirate-ish bit, but I keep referring to it as a 'him' unconsciously like I did the Duster so Corsair's one of the guys. Rosie on the other hand, my Mean Streak cruiser, identifies more on the female side. She apparently talked to my step-daughter who named her. My wife's minivan is one of the girls (Gracie), and my Ram pickup is the muscle and dubbed the Green Monster. :p So our family has a mix.
