Naming your MINI.
Tess
Here's my brand new 2013 MCS, her name is Tess - short for Vitesse: French for speed or gear. Briefly considered Zephyr but decided she was a girl afterall.
My previous two cars had names: the 2005 Prius was named 'Signorina Elettra' (a character in the Commissario Brunetti books by Donna Leon), and my 2003 R53 Electric Blue/White MCS was named 'Celeste' (Italian for a light colored sky blue).

Howzuh
My last name is Howser. Even my Daughters use Howzuh as their nickname at school. It's on the back of their letterman's jackets and sports uniforms. I transferred my vanity plate from my Carrera to my Mini. Just a logical name that has stuck over the years.
. The quest continues.
Our latest we called "Bertie", after http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_VI, as he's our 6th MINI.
Before that Algy was named after one of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggles's sidekicks. For no readily articulable reasons.
Going back, Shawn was named after http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaun_the_Sheep, after an offhand comment that he was going to be the black sheep of the family as his colour scheme was somewhat of a departure from the previous MINIs.
Tristan was named because he arrived on the the ship the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tristan_und_Isolde. The "Tris" part also fit as he was our third MINI.
Quentin was named after one of the presenter on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_Gear which also fit with his plate being "Q22 MINI".
We never agreed on a name for our first MINI, my favorite idea was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiff_Needell after another of the presenters of Fifth Gear who liked driving cars sideways. The sticking point was it sounded too much like a girls name (Tiffany).

The Hardtop is called Merlin in recognition of the engine in some Spitfires and Hurricanes. A relative used a capstan lathe to make parts for the Merlin engine during WWII. The Countryman is called Amnesia because she does not have a name.
First I have to decide whether my mini is a boy or a girl. At first I was thinking boy, but it seems like everytime I think about it I think of it as a she. Here are the names I have narrowed down (chili red): Jasper, Scarlett, Crimson, Cadmium (I'm a nerd), and Carmine. Anything jump out?

I'm sticking with The Blue Meanie for my 05 MCS.
BTW all: I see all kinds of descriptions for MINI colors: I think I'm Kite Blue, but have seen others like mine who say different. Are they different for certain years?
Education time!

I can't quite match up any of those colors. Perhpas electric blue metallic? Look at my profile pic and let me know. BTW: For my birthday, My son ordered custom made Blue Meanie window decals for my ride! Can't wait. Now, have to change out the tire air valves that are metal skulls as somebody told me they like to weld themselves to the stems! Boo! That would be cool to get Blue Meanie tire stem valve covers! Yaya!

Shermann (I added one more "n") came about due to the BRG color. Looks like a tank from the front, a Sherman tank!
My next one will be named (if I go with the R58) Blackjack. Blackjack for the color combination of the car, and the "Blackjack" side scuttles and mirrors.

I learned my Canadian Clubman was manufactured just 5 days after The MINI Cooper Clubman and MINI Cooper S Clubman go on sale in the US.
Thanks Llanrhaeadr_Cymru

My 06 BRG MINI is called CODA after the final Led Zeppelin album. The car I had before this (a dark green 94 Mazda MX6 which I lovingly owned for 10 years) was named Kashmir. I thought it would be fitting to keep the name of the MINI related to Led Zeppelin, and the day I went to get her from the dealership (which was 1 week today!) I was listening to the Led Zeppelin catalog searching for inspiration and bam, there it was, like it had been her name all along, CODA.
Been a long since a Rock and Roll! Great names! Watch out when the levy breaks! Zepplin rocks! I only grabbed "Blue Meanie" from Beattles cause I can get mean on a bad day, and the car is Blue!! Better than Mini-me. I'm not mini! LOL
