Naming your MINI.

How did you come up with the name of your MINI? And, does it have a specific meaning? Just curious of what others came up with.

Mine is named Fernada, German for daring and adventurous.

Mine's named "Gromit" after the dog character from the British "Wallace and Gromit" series. Like the MINI, Gromit is small but surprisingly clever!

If it don't come when I call it, it don't get a name.

Never understood the whole "let's name our inanimate object" thing.......

I've always named my cars, or more exactly, they seem to name themselves. Even inanimate objects have personality. What am I supposed to call it? -- "Oops, left my wallet in my MINI R53." I don't think so. My 2004 MCS British Racing Green is "Green Bean." Couldn't help it. It just stuck. Of course, the bean I'm thinking of is the one Jack threw away that turned into a giant beanstalk. My little Green Bean seems kinda magical.

No offense, but since you didn't just call it "my car," you do have a name for it. It's just not a very creative one and someone else picked it for you.

Out first MINI was Robin because the Oxygen Blue looked ver Robin's Egg Blue. Our current MINI is Chili Red/Black and one look we knew she was Sophie from True Blood. A fiery red head! So I guess it's color with us!

I just had to get in on this one.
Like you MINI33342, I never named my other cars but my MINI is just a bit different. He's like a pet or something.
Anyway, I named him Jack-Jack; the baby from the Incredibles movie.
He's a mild-mannered baby by day but **** him off & he turns into a fire breathing Super Hero!

It's the same with my car. Some say he looks cute and unassuming until I give them a ride & press the sport button. He spits & farts and beats up on bigger cars.

"If it don't come when I call it, it don't get a name."

Maybe the best response from the no-name crowd that I've read so far.

LOL, I was just thinking about this today. My family has a penchant for naming stuff, mostly mechanical things, but not just cars.
My first MINI was El Kabong, my current MINI is Mozart. Husband's Countryman is Wulfric, his Nissan Titan pickup is Icewolf. The big pull behind grill is SmokeWolf. The walk behind mower is Hidalgo. The automatic pool cleaner is Roger. The Roomba auto vacuum in the house is Beatrice (pronounced the British way- Bee-at-triss), the auto vacuum down at the kennel is Spike. The new zero clearance mower my husband is looking at will be either Cletus or Verdell .
The other day my daughter had a friend over who was amazed at how everything in the house seemed to have a name. My daughter, being the smart alek she is, started making up names on the spot so now the new grill is named Paul LOL.

It does make it simpler when telling one of the kids to check on something, ie, Go find Beatrice and put her in the charger, please...

Annette

Thanks Annette for naming your now gone but not forgotten MINI "El Kabong". When I first saw the signature on your posts last year, I immediately "got it". The image of Quickdraw McGraw in his El Kabong guise is a memory from Saturday mornings during my childhood in the 60s that I had not thought about in many years. Seeing the pictures in your NAM gallery of your MINI with the El Kabong sticker made me smile!

We did it the analytical way. We thought up dozens of names, researched obscure words on Google and Wikipedia, made lists, voted, vetoed, took the final four to the DMV to check plate availability (CABANA, as in Coopercabana, was taken. Darn!)

In the past, I've made fake license plates and shown them to friends to see whether they laughed. This time, we're not telling our friends what color the car is until it arrives, and the name is related to the color. So we didn't do user testing.

One of my favorite Mini plates of all time was STRONE. It was on a classic Cooper whose owner ran an Italian restaurant.

Vanessa. I wanted a supremely British-sounding name, but one that sounded sexy, as well. Was inspired by Elizabeth Hurley's character in the Austin Powers movies. She's sexy, smart, physically fit, etc., just like my modded R53 MCS. Seemed to fit, so there you go.

I named all my cars. My previous VW Golf was Greta, for example. I don't name any other inanimate objects; just cars... They definitely have personality, so it seems justified to me, at least...

Mine is "Dash (of) Hasenpfeffer of the House of Oxford"...Dash for short. He's the product of a marraige between English and Bavarian royalty. "Dash" because he likes to sprint from one light to the next and "Hasenpfeffer" ( loosely translated) German for hot pepper...the car's chili red...the House of Oxford (you can take a guess). As I was trying to think of a name and having the hardest time I realized it was because I was trying to name it a girl's name....then it hit me...it's a BOY! My first boy child! All my previous cars had been girls.

I just call my car "she."

Naming your car something wild labels you as a nut-job by your peers. Hahaha.

We just say the red one or the grey one. My wife looks at me funny when I say R50 or R56. Not a huge namer.

Captain JAC (Just-A-Cooper), just because, if Jack Sparrow was to drive a car, it would be a MINI.
