Got rear ended today :(

Stopped at a red light when a kid in a corolla slammed into me. Honestly I thought it was going to be alot worse. My exhaust is pushed down and the bumper is pushed in a little as well as torn open in one spot. The kid is going to pay for the damages.

The question is, does it look like I would need a new exhaust? and if I do, should I just get a custom?

yes and yes.

It is hard to say from that, but if there is even a scratch on the exhaust I would have them replace it.

Bumper looks like its just going to need a cover though, and I don't know that I can even tell that the exhaust is bent looking at it.

+1

If it was not damaged prior to impact, and is damaged now, it gets replaced. With genuine MINI parts.

That's what you're entitled to by law, and you should never waver from it.

With that said, I have had an expensive italian sportbike backed into and knocked over in a parking lot. It had double exhaust coming out the tail, and it looked like they were bent at first. My tech actually showed me that it wasn't, that the mufflers were just "binding" in the midpipes. He took the exhaust apart and remounted them, and it fit back perfectly. In that case, i didn't try to get new exhaust out of the insurance ($1300 for each of the two cans).

(the car hit the protruding license plate frame which goes inbetween the pipes, and it acted to torque them apart)

The estimate was $1700 for a bumper and exhaust being replaced. Even to me who isnt paying for anything that sounds ridiculously high. $300 for the bumper and a little over $500 for the exhaust. The rest is misc stuff and labor.

Including labor, that sounds pretty awesome to me.

This is a picture of my Miata that got hit in a parking lot. This cost the woman's insurance over $6000 to fix:

and this is the rest of of the damage on my previously mentioned tipped-over bike. Altogether costed right around $5k, and the only labor involved was my tech readjusting the exhaust. I put the rest of the parts on myself. If that $300 bumper sounds crazy, each of these plastic pieces on the bike is between $600 and $1000.

The rear bumper from MINI, primered is right around $300, and around $650 painted. Might as well upgrade the exhaust as well since it won't be coming out of your pocket.

Ahhh

I was gonna say, $300 for the factory bumper is pretty awesome. If its $650 for a factory painted bumper, that's what you should push for. After all, you didn't have a bodyshop-sprayed bumper before the impact...

You had all factory paint before, you should have all factory paint after. Period.
