Best way to launch the car?

Hey guys, I drive a 2010 MCS. I've been trying to experiment with launching the car, but still haven't seemed to find the sweet spot. I always seem to have way too much tire spin and then I have to feather it until I catch some traction. I'm still on the original run flat tires, which I despise, but can't afford a solid set at this time. Anyone have a good method to really hard launch the car?

Just peg it off the rev limiter and pop the clutch and you will be good. But in all seriousness its between 2500 and 3500 rpm is a good launch area.

Upgraded flux capacitors and dual second generation warp class engine controllers. Bring the matter-anti-matter mixture up to 80% of critical and engage the flow generators while screaming yyyyyyeeeeeeeeehHaaaaaa !!!!

Look up Tannerite VS Car on YouTube, results are impressive for common farming chemicals, and it will launch your car atleast a quarter mile!

In all reality tho, you are going to need to use all 3 pedals at the same time.
Hold in the clutch, have your right foot on the brake with the right side of it holding the gas pedal to about 4-5K RPM, when you are staged lightly slip the clutch to engauge it, on the last yellow of the tree come totaly off the brake and floor it, use the clutch as a traction controll and thats just about it.
It will take some practice but once you pick it up you wont want to do it any other way.

Make sure your DSC is turned off! I forgot once, and it was pretty embarrassing.

I used the handbrake to stage. Didn't need three feet to launch, and it seemed to preload the suspension just about right.

This thread went from some wanting to learn how to drive their MINI to nothing but a flame thread. If that happened to anyone else they would have cried up a storm.

Why bother? Front wheel drive cars just don't launch very well and straight line accelleration isn't exactly the Mini's strong point. Save your clutch and other components and just get it off the line smoothly and easily and once the clutch is fully engaged, only then floor it. If you need to drag race, get a rear wheel drive car, one where you can change the clutch easily and cheaply.

I recognize that launching the car is going to wear the clutch, tires, ect. and I am willing to shell out money on these parts due to accelerated wear. I respect your choice not to launch the car, but I value the increased entertainment of driving while launching it more than the money to replace the parts. I don't think it's necessary for other people to tell me what to do and what not to do with regards to my driving style.

Hey, just a suggestion. Have you priced what replacing the clutch costs and are you aware of the work involved? Just checkin'.

If you still want to launch it and aren't, as you say, concerned with accellerated wear, just experiment.

And yea, getting rid of the run flats and going to sticky rubber will help. Though it will likely make it even harder on the clutch and other components.

Man, OP sure got a lot of flack considering this is an "enthusiast" board, and he's enthusiastically enjoying his car! Personally I treat my clutch like a delicate flower, usually no gas until it's fully engaged and I'm rolling. The guy behind me at a light can suck it, I don't have $3k+ to replace it

Most of the people on these boards think of MINI's and drag racing like oil and water. There are however a few (myself included) that do drag their MINI pretty regularly, and it aint half bad at it.

Just remember if someone tells you that FWD cars cant hook up at the strip that: a Scion TC ran a 6 second quarter this summer FWD and all, and that there are plenty of 12 and 11 second (quarter mile) MINI's out there if you know where to look.

PM me and I will direct you to a performance only, no BS forum that has its fair share of drag racers.

Nothing beats practice. Find a straight empty road somewhere and just practice your launches until you are able to repeat the good ones. Do it where it is safe. Once you have it, you never forget.
