Move on up to a 2011; they have made great improvements in the engines and over all solidness of the car, eliminating each problem of previous years which had appeared!

Ive had my Water Pump and thermostat start leaking in the same week, right outside of warranty.

Replace the water pump myself, now off to do the thermostat myself.

You can be as loyal as you want about our MINIs, but the Civic Si is a heck of car, and reasonably priced too. Plus, being a Honda, it'll last about as long as the Roman Empire.

I hate the steering wheel emblem that keeps popping up...replaced 4 times and the stealership won't pay for the 5th fix.

When "fixed" (which included x4 airbag module replacement), completely flush for a while. Pop up occurs ~6 months later...I actually have a scar from catching my forearm on the dang thing.

My previous truck the rearview mirror fell off and I never got around to putting it back on. Now any other vehicle I drive the rearview mirror is in my way as well. Honestly, in my R53 I just took the rear view mirror off. I am so used to looking for either side when changing lanes and counting cars I'm good with out it.

[legal disclaimer]Now I'm not saying take your mirror off, I am just saying that is what I did. [/legal disclaimer]

Well,my other car is a 07 Civic bought new.
The sun visor hinges explode in hot weather, I'm on my 5th
Incorrect rear upper controls were installed at factory on a number of 06 07 civics, mine included. They charged me $600 to replace them and refused to cover cost because I was a few miles out of warranty. I've also had to have the brake pedal , transmission interface switch replaced. And of course the car is totally soulless, it's a appliance , a refrigerator on four wheels The Si is a slight improvement but still.........

My mini is a maxi....

I love my Countryman, excpet for the size!! the back body (below rear window) is too hard to see over, thank God I got the "reverse (parking) sensors" this has already saved a life on the nursery school parking lot. Its also too far away, I feel like I'm driving a mini van. Why couldnt MINI put 4 real doors on a vehicle the size of the Clubman. i would be a much happier camper. I guess after a while I will get used to it..... I hope. We are enjoying the 4 doors, and improved interior (since my 2006), but the SIZE! Its HUGE!. Its beautiful, cute, great color combo, but its sooo BIG!

Minis are built by BMW who are known for good engineering and yet they have still issues sometimes, so you saying hondas are better/will last forever compared to minis is kind of ironic/biased/unrealistic

...especially given the experiences w/ hondas that some of my friends have had w/ theirs (can you say worthless moneypit)

personally I've never owned one, and I don't really think I'll ever buy one since there's really nothing that special about them.

Don't hate on this person. They have a Honda. So what? They are proud of it. So what? My best friend has a 2006 Civic Si, and it's a great car! It has 180K miles on it, and he hasn't had any problems with it.

I'm not hating, I'm just pointing out the flaw in his view on hondas being as good/better than minis

"as good" is relative. I have a Mini. My girlfriend has a Honda Fit. When I was looking for a new car, I did consider a Honda.

I have no problem acknowledging that the honda is a more reliable car and from a purely practical perspective is a "better" car.

But, I had no interest in buying one for myself because to me driving is more than just getting from point A to point B. I drive for fun and recreation and need a car that has a little more personality than a purely utilitarian car like a Honda.

So in that respect the Mini is a better car, but from a reliability point of view, gas mileage, cost of ownership, maintenance, etc..etc.. a Honda is generally a better car.

Fonda my Honda, Love my MINI

Funny thread althgether. we have managed to zero into the two most reliable cars ever made I guess. My hubby and I were loyal Honda owners until we got our MINIs. Minis are just more fun to drive, and more stylish. (well, he did have a 240 Z from 1972 that our son is still driving - but that requres lots of tinkering just to keep running, and it always did!)

So Honda's rock, but MINIs rule. At least for us.....

Hondas Rock, MINIs Rule

Hondas have lived in this family for 20 plus years. My MINI's stable mate is a Honda Insight (no, not a fun car at all, but my partner adores it. )

I just stepped out of a Honda FIT. Way more practical than my MINI, most likely would have been more reliable over the long run. The FIT is a very well sorted out little car that I have recommended to many, and I will still do so.

But, I've put TWICE as many miles on the MINI over the past first month of loving Tina than I did in my first month of the FIT. And, that says it all, and I don't foresee that ratio changing in the future.

Oh, I forgot this is a "what do I hate about my MINI" thread. So, ..............
when I think of it, I'll post it.

Honda and Mini.

So why do you think that the Fit is more reliable and more practical?
Just askin'. I just stepped up to a "more practical" MINI, the Countryman, and all it all I love it, but I am having a hard time getting used to the size, and its hard to see out the back when backing up. its a real Family Car!

So we are still a two MINI family, hubby has a green with white roof 2008 Cooper, and I have the new surf blue with white roof countryman. We have one son still at home, age 9 and a boxer dog who loves car rides.

MINI has never had a recall..... I dont think any of the other car companies can say that. Look it up - just google recalls, none of the websites list any for MINI. Its also excellent on the side collision safety tests, and many of the other cars (eek, including my son's new Envoy- that gas guzzler!) are POOR!
