General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
'Twas a sad day Wednesday as my Mini crossed over the 100k threshold:
So last night was the door speaker and tweeter install:
The old paper cone speakers were gutted along with the tweeter and I installed JBL components. Since the car was wired for it already I am trying these without the crossovers that came with the speakers. We shall see how it sounds but so far it sounds infinitely better already.

Been known to drive a vehicle till the doors fell off and then I welded them on. My Land Cruiser has 328,000 miles. My truck has 270,000 miles. The mini has been a pretty good vehicle with only one required repair that included a new throttle body. Debating what to do. Sell it and buy a new one... keep it and drive it... trade it in on something else...
We just bought our third MINI......our second 2012 model. These along with my 2008 model which has 105,000 miles. When I was younger the kiss of death was reaching 100k. These days my kids think nothing of buying cars with 100,000 miles on them. They just run better and last longer. When picking up the newest 2012 my motoring advisor said that the second gen's were his favorite, the 2008 was the last real MINi saying it was more "raw" (confirming that it feels significantly different then my 12's: less horsepower but better acceleration, stiffer, more solid body build, and an unbelievable exhaust note with stock components - it's a sports car). He said that while the F56 is nice - it's not what MINI's were. It is more of a BMW than a MINI. He said they are loosing 1st and 2nd gen buyers but picking up new buyers who want the BMW ride and glamour. So, it looks like the newest MINI I would buy would be a 2013. And, I hope that my 2008 lasts longer. I can' t wait to drive it - over my 2012.
Today was the main door speakers. Again, the OEM speakers were sacrificed to create a solid mounting surface for the 6.5" JBL woofer:
Notched for the speaker brackets
Had to buzz down some side braces
All set
Speaker set in place to line up
Speaker bracket channel prepped for urethane
All lined up
Speaker urethaned and ready for the bracket
Urethaned in place
I got a little sloppy...
New versus old
Looks factory, and I added some foam to prevent the door card from contacting the speaker. Looks OEM.
Tweeter mounted. Again, looks OEM.
You'd never know until you hear it
After all is said and done, this was well worth the time and effort. The sound quality is fantastic, even for running off a head unit. An amp may happen but as it is I'll probably go deaf the way it is presently.

that's what I was thinking, I have a black scoop and I wish it was body colored. Much cleaner look.

I was thinking that now that the headlight rings tie in the grill a bit better that the scoop should stay silver. Or yea...body color. I've seen a few pics like that and have admired that look. Soo many choices !
