MINI Coupe Concept revealed
Hello, been here before in the dim and distant past, and came back to share this.
EVO have published photographs and details of the new MINI Coupe Concept ahead of the Frankfurt Motorshow later this year.
Looks pretty cool to me as well.

So that is how a MINI looks with a chopped roof...
Doesn't look too bad from the front, but the rear is very awkward and forced. I personally don't really like it.

I don't know. If they don't change the drivetrain, I really can't see any advantage of the Coupe over the Hatch. It might handle marginally better and maybe save some weight, but overall, now after seeing some concept photos, I'm still going to order my 2010 Cooper S hatch.
Oh my. My my. Give me a moment on this one...
After the minute of shock wore off I can say I like it! I enjoy the aggression and elementalism of the car and what it means for the brand. However the my initial reaction was of a hack-job R57 and I found it a bit disappointing. Perhaps this feeling has been caused by spyshots like those posted on MotoringFile, which although being less aggressive look far more resolved:

I very much like the sweep of the roof over the side windows and the cocoon it creates. Reminds me of some older British coupes:
My biggest complaint is the small, flat decklid on the boot. While being very traditional it makes the rear lights appear too far apart. I'd really like to see the rear side panels (which are straight from the R57) taken in and have the whole boot slightly tapered. The rear reminds me of my grandmother and the god-awful shoulder pads all of her blouses had.
I love the seat material. The blue and brown go very well and the interior fabric looks very hardy, something I'd find on furniture in the British countryside. What I don't like about the seats is that they don't appear to be any better bolstered than the R56 seats, which when in sporty driving aren't the best.
Also in regards to the car's "sportiness", the wheels appear to be the same 7" wide R113 JCW wheels with Dunlop SP Sport 01s tires. I was hoping for at least 7.5" wheels if not 8" wide wheels to enhance the wide stance and sporting intentions. The 7" wide wheels make the car look taller, further off the ground and more economy-oriented.
With all the talk about how sporty the coupe would be, the lack of better bolstered seats and narrow tires are my greatest first complaint besides little specifications given on the suspension. Otherwise I can't wait to see the final product. Oh, and does anybody else miss the antennae!

Love it. You have to remember this is really a concept. I'm sure the production model will be slightly more subdued and palatable for all people.
Can't wait for official numbers! Any guesses on 0-60, skidpad, 1/4mi, topspeed improvements?
