The press release

is on Motoringfile.... And I thought it was funny too, that they're putting out an iPhone/Touch game when there are issues with the hook up to the car!

I downloaded it. I'm not sure how much skill is involved, but on my second attempt I was doing really well on level 3 before I accidentally hit the find a MINI dealer button and killed the game.

The Find a MINI Dealer button doesn't actually find known MINI dealers but sends a "MINI cooper Dealer" query to the Maps which finds things which aren't MINI dealers as well.

Edit: There's more skill on the higher levels, where the MINIs move, the lower levels with static MINIs are just somewhat frustrating. I just crashed out on level 2 the second time around with 5190 points.

Can we settle this?

Can we settle this once and for all? I hear this all the time and I have no problem with people complaining about real issues, but this one comes up all the time and it doesn't need to. There are no "issues" with the hook-up of the iPhone to the MINI, because the cable was never designed to work with the iPhone or, more accurately, Apple changed the iPhone's port, making the pin-outs different than the previous iPod models. This was stated clearly on their website and other publications I read prior to purchasing my MINI. Even my dealership brought it to my attention to which I replied, "Yes, I know, I read it on the MINIUSA website." I might as well blame my old stereo with RCA out-puts for not working with my optical cables. Except the difference is that my old stereo instructions didn't say they wouldn't work with optical cables, because they didn't exist at the time! At least MINI published that their cable would not work with an iPhone.

Can we make this information a sticky???

There is a rumor that MINI may be developing an iPhone compatible cable, though I don't know why when they offer the Smartphone armrest treatment if you want to spend the money. If anyone has information on this I know that I would be interested. If they do develop such a cable, I will gladly buy it because it would be a new feature that was never promised to me before.

Sorry for the rant. Whew! I feel better!

The cable works just fine with my iPhone 3G. I have heard that there are problems with the cable charging the iPhone when it is less then 50% charged, but I haven't experienced that issue.

I did pay the extra $100 for the smartphone integration option that is located in the armrest, but they have not made the cradle for the 3G yet

You're right. It works for me with my iPhone 3G as well, but once or twice it has done some strange things. Others say it is very flaky. The fact that it works sometimes, or even all of the time for a few like yourself, doesn't change the fact that the cable wasn't designed for the iPhone 3G, and therefore MINI can't be blamed for any "issues" that may arise from using it.

Thanks for the info on the iPhone 3G cradle. My dealership told me they could get me one but I wasn't willing to shell out the money at the time. I also suspected (as you have confirmed) that the cradle was for the 1st gen iPhone and not the 3G. I'm glad I didn't waste my time and/or money.

Okayyyyyy......

I find it funny that MINI comes out with a game for the iPhone/touch when the iPod support isn't designed to work with these units. Whatever.... It's still weird......
