50K Chump Change

How about 450K for a Porsche GT. What kind of a person pays half a mil for a car?

Someone who has the means and wants to go very fast. 0-62 in 3.9 flat.

I'm sure the people who can afford a machine like a Carrera GT are wondering why anyone would ever wanna drive a MINI as well.

Until you have driven one, you will never be able to understand why this certain car, or any other like it for that matter, costs $410,000.

The funny thing is that $50,000 price still doesn't include the dealer labor to install the stuff in step 5 and/or 6.

The really interesting thing is to see what the most expensive factory MINI is. In other words, leave out steps 5 & 6. It seems that the max you can hit then is $42,000 for the 2009 JCW Hardtop and $44,950 for the 2009 JCW Clubman. (at least, that's what I hit when I tried it!)

I never knew why a Lamborghini cost so much (even though I want one baaaadd ).....until I rented one last year I have photos like crazy... childhood dream accomplished....I hit the highway towards Saudi Arabia and floored it!!! Maxed it out (governed at 305 KM/H) and I understood instantly why it is what it is

That must have been quite the experience.

But the Vette wont touch it 60-100 or 100-205.

The Z06 can't reach 205 though. Only the $115,000 ZR1 can.

That would be one sweet MINI, but for the $50,000 neighborhood, I'd be very tempted to go after a Porsche Boxster.

If I won the lottery(at least 10mil), I would definitely DEFINITELY indulge in an over the top Mini. I would even venture to take it to 75 grand. As a matter of fact, a complete stable would include;

1. An off road vehicle- probably an early Jeep(none of the crap Chrysler is putting out now)
2. A tricked out Mini
3. A large truck which can haul, move, carry whatever the heck I want.
4. A motorcycle(probably a custom crotch rocket ;p)

I would keep the budget for the 4 vehicles at under 300k though. I would never, ever purchase a stock vehicle over 100 grand.

Thing is you don't have to spend 50 large to have a rockin Mini, that's one of the things that makes them so sweet.... But for $50,000.00 you could get a fine Lotus!!

I wouldn't pay that much for a Mini. As far as 0-60 times, when I want to go fast, I ride my CBR929. It easy hits 60 in less than 3 seconds, without even leaving 1st gear.

You cant compare bikes to cars, this has been gone over and over time and time again.

All I have to do is throw a stick in your spokes, you wont be going 0-60 all to fast.

I could see paying 50g's for a Mini Cooper, just not outfitted that way. Some of those options I have no personal use for, such as the navigation system, cold weather package, etc, and those JCW wheels and tires aren't going to yield their equivalent $$$$ amount in performance.
Get it out of the box stock and send it out for some custom work. Engine, tranny and suspension and you could easily get to 50 g's+, but that's outside of the original question I think.

I have a friend that bought a new Mustang, and before it got delivered to his driveway he had spent $60,000 + in addition to the purchase price. after it had spent time with Carroll Shelby, and then got shipped to Tasca for more work. He also built a garage specifically to store it in. Folks are into cars.

It would be a sweet ride outfitted just as the OP has it, and if it retains anywhere near the 59% of it's original value, as reported in CNN Money, after 5 years, would it be that silly of a thing to do?
