EXACTLY.

Why people rag on others for paying a certain amount for a car is beyond me. It is all relative. I love my mini and If I could blow 50k on another I would. I know I could get a better performing car for that price BUT I don't care because I want another mini someday. I am sure my taste in cars will change but for now YES I would pay 50k for a Mini IF that is what I wanted and I made enough money.

ummmmmmmm... okay. Isn't that pretty much how we all approach our spending ? If I want it and I have enough money, I buy it. Goes for the $600 watch, a $2,000 television, or a $50,000 car. You weigh your priorities and wants vs your means and make a decision.

I wouldn't, when I spec a JCW it only comes to $32k. There's no point in getting options or accessories you don't want.

yup, so why do people give others a hard time for doing so? Who cares is someone pays 50k for a mini? If they can afford it great! If they cannot then not so great.

Oh and no that is NOT how all people approach spending, take a look at our current economic crisis. If that was the way we ALL approached spending we wouldn't be in as deep of a mess.

People making 50k a year buying half million dollar homes. lol.

I don't give people a hard time and I can't speak for those who do. I know that was a rhetorical quesiton. Still....

Okay, if you want to nitpick. That's not how all people make their financial decisions. There are a percentage of people out there who don't consider their means before they spend. They don't do that very long though. Pretty soon, those people end up in bankruptcy court.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.... people making $50,000 a year can qualify for a half million dollar home ?? Mortgage companies just aren't too bright, huh ?

I am not sure it has to do with how bright they were, more like how greedy they were. I hope some of them get what they deserve. I would never put all of the culpability on the people giving the mortgages but cmon........

Yeah, cmon... keep it real here, huh ? How many people who earn $50,000 a year are buying half million dollar homes.

I wasn't putting any blame on mortgage companies, but making a point of how trivial your point was.

I'm sure the people who can afford a machine like a Carrera GT are wondering why anyone would ever wanna drive a MINI as well.

Until you have driven one, you will never be able to understand why this certain car, or any other like it for that matter, costs $410,000.
Oh I understand why it costs as much as it does. Even after I drove one, if I ever did, I still wouldn't assign that much value to a hunk of steel and plastic - even if it launched like the space shuttle and went twice as fast. If it was a tool used like any other piece of expensive equipment (ex. race car, industrial compressors, pumps, earthmoving equipment, etc), perhaps I could justify the expense. As a toy, it only seems rational for one who has more money than they'll ever be able to spend - like Bill Gates or others in his income bracket. But they don't live in the same world I do, even though I am considered in the upper class economically, and I certainly believe I have no authority, moral or otherwise, to decide how others should spend their money.

I think paying that much for a toy is silly, but it's their money: if they feel it's a good value, giddieup.

That porsche is a different story, it is a lot of money but much more worth the price than a 50k mini, IMHO

All I have to do is throw a stick in your spokes, you wont be going 0-60 all to fast.
My bike goes 0-15 in about 20 seconds, but it only has a 1/10th HP engine. Good news is the engine will run on just about anything: bananas, peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches, ice cream. The engine also leaks, and more often than it used to.

Official MINI Cooper Challenge Car

$50,000 is nothing but a down payment for the official MINI Cooper Challenge car.

I seems you have never been behind the wheel of a 2009 John Cooper Works. I nearly put $50,000 g's on one of these two weeks ago! WTH was I thinking? It is a hard feeling to describe and even harder to walk away from with my hands in my pockets!!!

I originally filled out one of those forms and submitted it but was contacted by MINIUSA and told that it was not possible at this time to purchase a Challenge MINI and have it shipped to the states.

I know people who've done it but they do not have any extra splurges what so ever. My aunt bought a 600K 2 family house in a nice suburban neighborhood just so her three sons can go to a good school. Her combined salary plus my uncles probably doesn't tip over 60K to 70K. At the end of this year, it would be 6 years since they've been keeping this up. It's all about how hard you want to work for it and the sacrifices your willing to take.

For 50K, I'd get a M3 used or new.

I would have to be wealthy enough that 50K didn't mean that much to me . I'm not . Should have worked harder I guess. My MINI plus My MX5=40K.

Yeah, not saying it's never done. Just saying it's a very small minority that have a mortgage that is 10 X their annual income.

Yes! and I'll add another 2 grand to get it properly tuned. Happens next year when I've finished saving up for it.

Sorry to say, it is very likely someone that is suffering with internal drama and the car is a way of self medicating.

It's kinda sad......

Or, for that person, $450k is mere chump change. If I had a couple hundred mil in the bank, I wouldn't think too hard about buying a $450k car that I really liked. Look at all the people (most in fact) that have to finance their cars because they don't have enough coin in the bank to buy it outright.
