DSC - Stupid Question

Just got my MINI Cooper S Clubman, I think the DSC comes standard on it. I've read the manual and still can't figure out how to tell if it's on or not. There's a little button near the gear shifter **** that says, "DSC off." It doesn't light up. If I press it, there's a triangle with an exlamation point that shows up on the instrument panel on the steering wheel. What does that mean?

I tried looking this up on other threads and it seemed like when you start the car up, something on the instrument panel should flash and let you know the DSC is activated. I started my car several times to see, the same triangular symbol with the exclamation point momentarily flashes on the instrument panel. Does that mean the DSC is on?

Thanks for any help!

Triangle with an exlamation point lit = DSC Off

All the lights flash when the car is started.

Your DSC is on all the time unless you turn it off. It works mostly in the background.

The DSC Hill Assist will keep your brakes engaged for 2 seconds if you stop on an incline and release the brake pedal, but the DSC light doesn't come on.

The only time I have actually seen that the DSC was working was a couple of times on slushy snow. The DSC light in the tach would blink as it responded to an impending skid. Never did skid, by the way. 4WD SUVs all over the place fishtailing, but Molly held straight and true.

i have set my default dsc off
i turn it on when it's rainy, snowy, bad weather in general. driving with dcs off all the time really lets you know when it's on. i track and autocross my mini. drive like a wannabe racer looking for late apex in all turns, so i suspect this dsc auto off thing isn't for everyone! enjoy your clubby!

DO a search - there is an appropriate time to have DSC off, even in snow or rain (especially when getting started, or climbing a hill when some wheelspin is OK). Otherwise, DSC "on" can help keep you on course. Oft discussed subject.

Gnat's got it right - light on = DSC off.

My DSC has saved my butt (and MINI) a few times when driving a little too, uh, aggressively.... I'm a big fan of keeping it on.... except when turning out into traffic, when the ASC can ruin your day....

I think that's part of the Cull auto-up circuit (aftermarket, not a dealer-selectable item), but am not sure...

Gnatster, with your clarity, you should be writing the manuals! Thanks!

Oldsbear, I think you may have just explained what's been happening with my brakes on the driveway -- it's a substantial incline! Thank you, too!

I appreciate everyone's input!

Molly & Pearl are so cute!
