My iPod has 3 options currently:
1: The Black Mages. (If only I could find my actual CDs...)
2: Various Beat-heavy songs. (Mainly for when the windows are down)
3: Smashing Pumpkins. All albums. Almost always selected.
I've also been listening to some Henry Rollins recently, but it's probably going to swing back to SP within the next week or two. :D

My eighties roots are showing...
First thing played in my new Mini in April will most likely be...
"Shout" by Tears for Fears
"Don't Go" by Yazoo (or Yaz here in the US)
"Born to Run" by Springsteen
Something celtic , and maybe
"Winterborn" by the goth band The Cruxshadows
(Great song... would have been perfect for the movie "300")

I am a big fan of Celtic music so if you climb in your likely to hear The Chieftans, Riverdance or that sort of stuff. What ever I listen to has got to have a heavy beat or strong melody to overcome the MINI's normal decibel level.
I can't believe 5 pages of posts and nobody has voted for Radar Love by Golden Earring. Best. Driving Song. Ever.
A few other close contenders....
Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs
Last Days of May by Blue Oyster Cult (the live version)
Freeway Jam by Jeff Beck & Jan Hammer
Stranglehold by Ted Nugent
He's Calling by Frank Marino
You just can't help but press the gas pedal....
