Strange indeed. A Subaru Impreza is hardly a small car.

The results are really odd.. I guess they reflect the "bigger is better" mentality of today.

Mini's score high in testing that reflect other cars of similar mass. They are ranked high amongst their peers. But, we don't drive on roads with just other small cars. I live where 90% of the vehicles are full size trucks/SUVs. I myself own a one ton truck. It weighs 4 tons and I'd hate to meet up with it in the Mini regardless of how safe the car is.

Do a search on the same site and you will find this info

Mini Cooper
2007-08 models
FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Good

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:

The Mini Cooper was redesigned for the 2007 model year. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by BMW (manufacturer of the Mini) as part of frontal crash test verification.......

Also says that in the rear crash protection, the 07-08's do better than the 02-06. If you're not a tall person, you should be fine, lol.
