When does DSC/ASC/ABS intervene when turned off?
For autoX and track, when DSC/ASC/ABS is turned off via the switch, how much intervention is there? I would expect that the MINI system is like almost all other manufacturers' systems in that they can't be 100% turned off simply using the switch. With some other cars the defeat switch just adjusts the electronic stability control to higher thresholds before intervening. With other cars if you press the switch the ESC will only intervene when the brakes are applied, but then switch off once the brakes are released. How does the MINI/BMW system work?
On (ahem) the 2006 model I was driving, it seems like the DSC-off switch turns everything off except the ABS. No stability control intervention even when completely crossed-up in the snow... and wheelspin galore.

On a side note, I once was playing around, and pulled one of the ABS fuses to see what it was like without ABS. Very fun, with no emergency at hand. Side effects: the speedometer was shut off (to detur you from driving), the milage didnt count up, and the computer had no idea what my average speed/MPG/rest of that stuff was. I dont recall if the tach worked or not, but you know how it is; we can tell our speed by seat of the pants feel and engine noise/vibration & current gear.
As I stated............

Not what he was saying at all..............he was asking if the MINI system was like some other high performance car manufacturers. That the DSC does not completely turn off. It does, but the ABS and EBC are on all the time.
+1
