On a much smaller scale, some of the BMW clubs sponsor a "Car Contol School." In Houston it's early in the year--mid March (we don't have to worry about snow here). This is geared to new drivers or anyone else who needs some education to improve their driving skills (don't we all?). Any type of car allowed, and the cost is $75. This is NOT the same as a DE event. In Houston we hold it at the Houston Police Academy training facility, which is also where autocrosses are held.

It's a very worthwhile event, and should be considered by anyone in the area.

Too bad you guys don't have an event on the East coast... I'd totally go!

Will have to check if there's anything like daffodildeb is referring to in my area.

the BMW school is called "street survival" it is a great school. We usually only have it in NC one time a year and it sells out in minutes.

at the Petty school you drive our cars (dodges) except for the accident avoidance exercise. we really want you to be able to do that in your own car. In the past when it was under the name "xtreme measures" we did the whole two day school in student cars. A lot of people/parents didn't like the idea pushing their personal cars that hard for two days. you know tire wear and brakes not to mention the residue the wet soapy skidpad leaft on them.

again, street survial is awesome. get in one if you can. A lot of us instruct that also. Most of the in car instructors for Petty are BMW CCA guys.

Uncontrolled intersections suck.

Going to get the headlight rings, grill, and bonnet in black when it's fixed, that's about the only positive thing I've said since the accident.

Here's our MINI after a head-on collision with a truck (other driver's fault).

Good news is no significant injuries.

Replacement car is at the VPC and hopefully will be delivered by end of week!

Well, that makes the uncontrolled intersection look even better.

It was dark, road was wet had rained earlier, other driver sped through the uncontrolled intersection from my left and there were obstructions in my way, house, and a large parked truck at the corner. He came out of no where, I was just glancing left and right quickly trying to get my bearings because I was lost and all of a sudden my brother shouted "CAR" and that was it.

So far the estimate is $5500.00.

That's just a visual inspection without taking any parts of the bumper off, that happens tomorrow.

Nope, my insurance company is assuming liability because I hit his car behind the rear wheel...

My wheels are black Raceline 126's, 17"x7.5" @ 40mm offset. More pics in my gallery and on silenze.org.

I got them at Les Schwabs (local tire center) for around $110 each..

Why do I come in here?

Sorry to see these sad MINI's but always glad to see that the MINI's occupants survive.

We can't help it. It's the NAM equivalent of rubbernecking. At least there's no impact on traffic flow.
