Your car will give its life for your life. 21,000 or 28,000 is a good price to live through something bad. The pics make me feel safeand sad

At first blush it doesn't look doctored, but I'm not an expert. *shrug*

Maybe the car in front of him braked really hard, causing the back end of his car to go upwards a bit, and then the MINI dug under him that way?

That's the only way I can think of... the MINI doesn't look flat enough to do it in a typical rear-end collision... but that is no typical accident! Poor MINI.

Looks like the car behind the Mini plowed into it.

Yup. And the MINI has some front end damage in front of the wheels also.

The car is a 2001.
I too was surprised at how little damage there appeared to be, however going about 50 we hit a car broadside that had pulled out of a parking lot. It doesn't show in the pic but the engine was ripped off its mounts and the car is actuall 8" shorter than it was before the accident.

No one was seriously hurt. One broken bone and lots of bruises.

You were lucky!

(Although I always wonder about saying that--if you were really lucky you'd not been there in the first place.)

Similarly to the Beetle, here is my totalled 97 Escort, dramatic reinactment and point of impact. It had only 56k miles. I am sooooo happy with its replacement! A 04MCS IB/B. I hope I never have pictures of the Mini to post here.

I'm just a "little" behind in this thread.

We were hit by a 90's Pontiac Bonneville.

The airbags (seat) did not deploy in the accident. I don't remember all the explanation, but some people from MINIUSA looked at the car after the accident and they said that the sensor for the side impact airbags was above and behind the impact location and that the impact wasn't enough to deploy the airbags. Waylen (Way Motor Works) also looked at the car and said the same thing.

As bad as it looked, the car protected us really well. We weren't even sore the next day--of course seeing Gromit with a BIG dent sure hurt.

I was in a accident back in August. I turned into a median going left. Wham I met a Dodge 1500 Thunder road. I got hit directly in the hood. My car was eventually totalled. Nice thing was I only got a cut lip. But I surely do miss my car.

Picutures are in my gallery.

Well, I haven't wrecked my MINI yet, however, I have a bad feeling that I am going to be T-boned in an intersection, my side.

I did, however, have a very nice E36 BMW 328iS that per my predictions, was eaten by a guard rail. I was on an onramp, and after coming around the bend and getting into the straightaway, I sped up to merge (traffic was traveling probably btw. 65-80 MPH), hit a patch of ice, rear became unstable, and wound up hitting the front passenger side at an angle. The car probably would have survived had the guard rail not already been hit by several other cars at some other point. The metal rail had detached from the posts, which had been bent at an angle, my car followed the rail, ran over the bent posts, had the passenger suspension ripped out, front and back, and wound up sitting perpendicular to the merge lane. One thing that was interesting, the next day we went to the scene to investigate the damage, and saw that there were bumpers to an Accord, a Protege, and an RSX...

I was extremely sad, The car was fully loaded, I had just installed European Glass Ellipsoids and a Xenon conversion, I had brand new front brakes, Brand new Pirelli P-zero Nero M+S, all new front lights (got them for christmas about a month earlier) and new floormats. The interior was also pristene. Rear seats looked like they had never been sat upon, and only the drivers seat had any noticable wear. Needless to say, the car was totaled. I was extremely sad. However, I have the MINI now and am pretty darn happy with it!

If and when I get hit in the MINI, I will post pictures. I will say though, It is no joke that I knew the BMW would go by guardrail. Knew it the day I got the car.... Same goes for the MINI, It will go by T-Boning on the drivers side....

'twas a beauty:

Did they ever replace the (entire) guard rail?

After Several months. I just so happened to be driving by the day that they were installing new rail portions (I don't get by there much, it is a ways away from me) Supposedly that is a very dangerous onramp. The guys at the tow yard told us that about two years ago, a school bus flipped there I can imagine that the guard rail has been hit since then (the accident happened on January 30th)

That 328iS looked immaculate. What a shame. I'm sure someone got the interior parts off it. They parted it out right?

Old pics, but none the less...

I wasn't even moving! Backed into by a Jeep Commander. Close to $5k in repairs (through her insurance) and I was without my car for a month. Oh yeah, and it was 2 months old at the time!

I believe they did. I was keeping an eye on the VIN, and it was auctioned off. Hopefully somebody is enjoying parts from the inside of the car.

chili_red07 :

Man, what a bummer! You go and get a brand new car, and immediately somebody else goes and screws it up for you. :( Glad to hear that you are enjoying it again!

You're all breaking my heart....

Of course, my heart was already broken on November 2 when I totaled my Oxygen Blue Cooper (my fault....I overcorrected...and I feel terrible about it). I'd only had it for about 2 1/2 months. Sorry - no pics. In fact, I saw it when they loaded it on the wrecker at the accident scene (pre-dawn so still in the dark) and I haven't seen it since. The drivers side hit cables separating lanes on a highway and tore up the whole side....and apparently cracked something underneath. They were figuring $15,000-$16,000 worth of damage and, in my state, that is too high of a percentage of the car's value to fix so it was declared a total loss. Of course, I have a replica replacement on order already....

Ouch..... I've always wondered if those barriers did more damage when you hit them than when you hit the standard metal ones.

Sorry to hear about your loss... Did you even get past the excitement of having a new car before it happened? At least you have a replacement coming your way...
