R50/53 vs. R56 - I've had enough!
The world has come to an end several times around here. The MCS automatic, the JCW vs aftermarket debate, and now R56. There may be others, but all these were heated discussions...people got (and probably still are) miffed. But we survive....and so does MINI. The same is true here I have no doubt.

JCW - Sucks
Aftermarket - Sucks
R56 - Bites
That should end the debate.

I guess I'm blessed with tolerance. Foolish statements make the person writing them foolish . . . they don't make me mad. I just quit participating in and reading the R56/R53 threads.
As for the panty-boy Volvo lover, I'm a Saab man myself. Remember, low resale value is a two edged sword . . . and as I'm usually on the lower edge, (hey, I'm a used Saab man. . . but what is the sweet small all-wheel drive Volvo about . . . ?)

Are we doing this again? And again? And again?
Can we have the obligatory "I'm fed up with the R56/R53 bashing" thread a sticky, for those who are tired of the same old thing, or better yet, have it randomly reposted every month or so, so that maybe we can reflame the fire, strictly for entertainment purposes?
Or maybe we could move on, and start a "Clubman is sacrilege" thread, and start bashing that...
It's not all bad though. One more thread like this, and I think I'll finally have the excuse to sell the MINI and get an Elise.

You mean you're a GM man?
Saab was founded by 16 aircraft engineers (how come I've heard of the Swedish Bikini Team but not the Swedish Airforce?) - their spirit lives on in rebadged GM cars.......

After reading this "discussion" of the R53/R56 matter, somehow my little ole 02 MC seems even sweeter to me than ever, even with her lack of turbo or whatever...in my opinion... ALL MINIs RULE!! Regardless. (Now I'll back out very slowly and fearfully.)
I'm torn between a Cayman S and an Elise as my next toy (Got to get better driving the MINI first before moving into one of those). The Cayman S is a better around town car, still has great performance, but it still tweaks me that Porsche detuned it a bit to seperate it more from the 911' s performance. You can get that performance back, but it costs about 6 grand. I'm hoping someday the 911 will get boosted further, and the Cayman S will get undetuned (is that a word)...
I also looked at a Z4--and its just not comfortable to sit in. Its awful (for me). The Cayman is very, very comfortable. The Elise is comfortable too, but getting into and out of it is a chore, and I'm concerned if I bought one, I could wind up on "America's Funniest Home Video's" someday, if some enterprising soul with a video camera happend to be in the vicinity when I was attempting a quick entrance into it. But its my favorite to drive once the contortions required for entering are out of the way.
What is it about some MINI owners that causes them to feel as though they need to assert the superiority of their car over other MINIs and other cars in general? Just because you own a MINI doesn't make you more enlightened nor does it makes you God's gift to humanity, while the rest of the world is left in automotive hell.

I don't think MINIs are to blame at all....if one understands the diversity of MINI culture as a whole this becomes more clear. No, it's more a carry over from the competitiveness seen in certain gear-heads (not a put down, on the contrary) and the chronically testosterone-poisoned (yes, that's a bit of a put down, I admit). More vitriol is spewed by this group than all others combined around here. You can't blame them really...it is born of a competitive nature and that has it's plusses and minuses. I (as one who essentially does nothing but milk runs) think it's rather cool that MINIs attract such hard-core enthusiasts so I am willing to put up with their crappy attitudes.
