Top Speeds (track / closed course)
Top Speeds
Since the other thread was removed I thought I would start another. All discussion here is for top speeds you have seen in your MINI.
This website does not appreciate nor tollerate street racing or illegal driving on public roads.
I my self have seen 150 in sixth gear... However this was slightly down hill. I have not yet found the rev limiter in sixth. Not sure what the mechanically limited speed is.

Top Speed Legally
Ok.. Since I missed the other thread, What's your top speed LEGALLY.
Only list where it happened, what car, and approximately when.
My top speed in the US in my MINI: Pahrump track, about 100 mph down the back straight, March 2005
Top speed not in the US: Autobahn just south of Hamburg, in a rented BMW 3 series diesel, 240 kph (just shy of 150 mph), Feb 2005
Top speed on a US Highway: 75 MPH

In the US, legally? Yup, 75 in ALL my vehicles.
On the A-8 and A-61 Autobahns, about 130 mph in my BMW 318is, somewhere in the neighborhood of 145 on my slightly warmed over Kawasaki Zephyr 750. . .
Now, hypothetically speaking, if I had my MINI and/or my '02 Honda 919 on the autobahn instead of the Colorado Interstate, I'm sure I'd be able to get 110 indicated (and climbing) on the MINI and about 135 (and climbing) on the bike.
Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Thunderhill raceway...
105 at the end of the front straight, before turn one. This will go up, as I have more toys on the car, and I'm learning to carry more speed throught the turns, and I now have the rear sway bar too! I don't remember my fastest at Sears Point, but I dont think it has a straight away as long as thunder hill.
In italy, I had a little alfa romeo rental hatchback and was going about 125 on a big sweeper. I think I was speeding, but I'm not so sure. A cop passed me on a motorcycle like I was standing still! And I think he was just blasting too, as he didn't have lights on or anything. The one time I got to drive in Germany on the Autobahn, I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic! Bummer.
In the US, the top legal speed on the roads I've done is 75 as well. But if you do that on 280 in the bay area, you'll get a Bimmer badge or Mercedes hood ornament stuffed up your rear exhaust pretty fast!

About 112mph on the front straight at Nashville Super Speedway during a Phil Wicks event. I say about because I only glanced at the speedometer as I had other things to look at.
Though, 40mph in the turns was more fun.

That was with my stock pulley though. I have the 19% now but am waiting untill I get my GIAC with JCW injectors and an uprated intercooler, before I top her out.
110 at Fernley/Reno, 100 at T-hill. Dr. O. 105 is pretty good for a mini at T-hill. You can go faster on the front straight going the other way around as turn 1 is way way faster than turn 15:smile:

Good thing Sylvester Stallone didn't post about his exploits on the streets with an Indy car - man, we'd be locked up tighter than Fort Knox!!

Nov 2002 - Summit Point - Main Circuit - 110 - with instructor (HPDE) in my MCS
July 1974 - US 50 in the middle of Nevada - 120 - Jensen Healy - BTW top was down
(Please note there were no posted speed limits in Nevada at this time)
Forgot to add: Stationed in Germany/Italy from 82 to 88 so lots of time at speed on the autobahn/autostrada (76 2002tii)

After driving at Hawaii Raceway Park track for lapping sessions, autocross and in driving school with small 15" tires I realize that my observations of the speed being traveled are altered by my 22.9" outer tire diameter.
Hence, my 85 mph reading coming out of the sweeper turn where I used to do 70 mph in 17" wheels isn't because I am driving any "faster".
So given that, I wonder about the wheels we are using when we report our speeds on the track. I've done about 100-105 mph on our track but our driving school organizers will often place strategic cones at the end of a straight to slow down top speeds and force a lane change before a hair pin turn. This tends to keep drivers out of trouble.

Unmodded, MCS05 130 MPH, A-1, Naples, Italy. With the new gearing and the wind resistance, I didn't have time/distance to wait and see if I could get to the published 138 MPH.
Now I have a 19% pulley and will have to find out if I can bump the governor on this machine.
