2008 Formula 1 Discussion
He's not saying they should ban stops, just refueling. A heavy, full race fuel load would make tire wear, and set up and driving style (which affect tire wear), bigger factors, with some cars stopping more for tires than others. Differences in fuel use and efficiency would mean different weights (and therefore relative speeds) at the start of the race and all the cars would get faster closer to the finish (unless conserving fuel).
I would think it would be an improvement to safety -- no more refueling fires (I saw at least 3 of them at Hungary) or refueling rig injuries when the nozzle gets stuck and the driver takes off anyway, etc. Imagine what might happen if there was a big electric arc from a KERS malfunction at the same time as one of those refueling rig malfunctions.....
You're right though, he's certainly not the first to suggest it, and I don't expect them to do it.

An interesting read regarding Ferrari and their crop of current problems:

"He has been champion already. Sometimes it appears he wants to watch rather than race," the Swiss said.

Nick's still a good driver, perhaps Kubica is getting preference when it comes to car design ?
Still seems to me Alonso is going to Honder and Jenson will go back to Renault. After Mclaren, you know he will insist #1 status wherever he goes, would Jens be willing to give in ? We know Rubes is a good #2

I wish it were still so. As it is, he's one of those "moving chicanes" David Hobbs referred to a year or so back (I think it was Hobbs). He should have retired on his Ferrari pension a long time ago. It's sad to see what has become of the driver who was once #2 in points.
The devil is red and Rubino sold his soul
His first victory was awesome, I think we all cried with joy along with him that day (I think I already said that)

I find it hard to think that Fred would go to a struggling team that hasn't shown anything in 2008. Renault has been showing some improvement. I see only three ways Fred might go: Ferrari, BMW, or stay with Flabbio.
Nobody thought he would leave Renault for Mclaren either....why would you leave a WC team ? perhaps he knew the budget and plans for the next season. He must have because the car went downhill quick. He should have researched his new teammate better though
And for that reason, he may know what Honda has up its sleeve. I cannot imagine Honda continuing to perform so badly, their pride and image surely will influence them to start making a true effort to winning. Its amazing to see such dismal performance when you think about the Mclaren/Honda days.

He left Renault because in the middle of 2006, Renault publicly announced they were leaving the sport. Fred went to the most competitive team that gave him an opening.
I don't see him making a career out of trying to build up crap teams.

Just my opinion but I would think Ferrari would have to ditch Massa and Kimi in order to have a situation that would satisfy Alonso. I can't see him going into another situation like the one with Lewis
Absolutely! And I can't see Ferrari (BMW, fill in the blank) doing this. His winning potential aside, I have to wonder if he's become persona non grata to all but the second tier.
Massa dominates race only to almost lose it in the pits, Kimi takes out a few pit crew members just to have his engine give up the ghost shortly thereafter, Massa gets a slap on the wrist and a €10,000 fine. They seem to kinda have it together just to either lose it all or some really close to losing it all. Oh, this can only get better and better!
In the past it was the brit, now replaced by the Japanese chap ?
Seems to be similarity in their notoriety eh ? Think back to Baharain......
Way to go Lewis !
Massa deserved the win, it would have really blown had they given him a stop-n-go, hopefully they will have the same courtesy for Mclaren in similar circumstances

Yup, I suppose the standard Ham-hating will return after a few days.....or weeks, but I'm sure that when Nakajima forced Alonso's retirement on the first lap he took the mantle, even if only temporarily.
