2008 Formula 1 Discussion
It's possible.]I never manage to avoid finding out who won first, anyway... so maybe I can wait.
Now, if only they'd added the visuals! After all, they had the F1 computer game back then, didn't they?
We peeked through the fence at the Ferrari factory track when we were there last month, but no F1 testing. (Rats--I was hoping for a shot of Michael testing something) A customer car was being checked out, as well as a mule (dummy car with faked profile). Wonder what they're testing.

Here's the latest on Kimi's retirement:

Which, of course, puts Alonso into his place. Would be a real scream if Massa made champ this year, or nearly so. The only thing crazier than a Kimi/Alonso fight would be a Massa/Alonso fight.

I absolutely cannot be happier with the results of the Canadian GP (unless Fred somehow won).
That track absolutely OWED Robert a win, and he collected.
I did (briefly) feel bad for Kimi, and now I learn that The Brat and Nico have received a 10 spot penalty on the grid for the next race.
And for those who don't think I should call him The Brat? Did you notice behavior as he walked back to his pit? Shoving the camera aside, blew off Kimi when Kimi tried to talk to him... what a brat. And yes I know Fred has had his moments too, but he's earned his 'tude.

Well this truly is shaping up to be a year of record!
Congratulations to Robert Kubica & BMW Sauber on their 1st win!
ScottinBend is correct in saying that Lewis Hamilton owned the track today he just didn't own the pitlane. I've no doubt that had he not had that faux pas he would have easily won the Canadian GP. He was in a class by himself.
Gromit, I too believe that Hamilton's post accident behavior was in bad taste but I also understand the Heat of the Moment frustration that he was going through. It isn't easy to deal with a camera in your face after such an incident. I believe he readily knew who was at fault, he was just having a very hard time coming to grips with such a preventable mistake.
A big thumbs up to Kimi on controlling himself in such a gentlemanly manner after being taken out by the McLaren of Hamilton. Such composure is refreshing to see rather than being subjected to the helmet throwing, fist flying shenanigans of some other series.
Congrats again to Robert Kubica and BMW Sauber on their victory today! I'm sure that we will see many more.

woah what a crazy race.
it was a little fluky but congrats to BMW
It could not happen to a nicer group of people. Kubica does what a driver is supposed to do. Shut up and drive the wheels off the car and you are the number one driver unlike say Rubens and Coulthard.
BMW leads the Drivers Championship and is only 3 pts behind in the Constructors Championship
I don't think they can maintain that though...unless McLaren and Ferrari keep taking each other out.
Stupid Lewis after a great Monaco, then this. He should have been more gracious to Kimi and the cameras like he usually is, but I would not go so far as to call him a "Brat." He is certainly a better team player than that traitor Alonso.
Is he as genuinely nice as the BMW teammates? Probably not, but I think he is a better driver if not the best driver in F1 right now.

From everything I've heard (and seen), Lewis really IS a nice guy to his teammates. Can't say I blame him a bit for today--haven't you ever been really, really pissed at yourself, Gromit? Wouldn't you have been even a little MORE pissed if someone shoved a camera in your face?
At least he's never deliberately held up his teammate in the pits, kicked in a trailer door, etc., etc., like someone I could name.
I'm glad BMW managed to pull something good out of a race so catastrophic to the rest of the "biggies." Congrats to Kubica and Heidfeld!

You were there? Cool! How is the track for spectating?
Well said on all points, Sabre. It was a really great race to watch and I'm really happy for BMW. I couldn't help but feel just a tiny bit sorry for Nick Heidfeld after being so close to his first win and narrowly missing out, but I'm also very happy to see Kubica on the podium.
And how about that 2-for-1 pass that Massa made? Now THAT was one of the best passes I've ever, EVER seen!

It's a great track... unless you haev to drive on it. Big drama about the surface this weekend that you can read about all over itv-f1.com or f1.com.
We were in the grandstand looking into the hairpin of turn 10. It was a great place to see the cars going slow. They'd haul down the straight and break hard, turn slowly and then haul out. Lot's of slides and excitement. My only complain is that the view is limited to that turn and the 200 meters before and after. There was a huge screen in view but it was too far to read anything.
I'd go again, but to mix it up, I'd like different tickets. Also, if you are ever considering going, DO NOT get general admission. Unless something changes, General Admission viewing is very limited. It will save you a couple hundered bucks over the weekend but IMO it's not worth it.
There are lots of shade trees (unlike Indy) where you can cool off and relax between the action. And it's very accessable by the Metro. It's almost impossible to park a car there so do not drive. Period. The metro stop 1/2 a block from our hotel was 1 stop away from the track. Perfect!
Finally, I highly recommend renting kangaroo.tv when you are there. You get the F1 Video Feed. Lots of in car camera's and enough stats to keep any F1 geek happy. Bring a splitter and a couple good protective headphones and it's the best of both worlds (watching at home and being there.). It was my wife's first time (my 3rd) to an F1 race and it was great for both of us!

As to The Brat's behavior. Sure I've been pissed at something I screwed up. But in my whole life, I have never thrown a tantrum. He's lucky he hit someone as mild mannered as Kimi. Someone like James Hunt would have torn his head off.
I'm sorry, I must have missed this "tantrum" you were talking about. All he did was point the camera away from him because he felt like being alone, and he gave Kimi a pat on the back after Kimi pointed at the lights.
We must have watched different races then. We (everyone in the house watching agreed) saw Hamilton push Kimi's arm away, and push the camera away. He's an F1 driver. If he wants privacy, he'd better stay home. While walking down the pit lane in public, he's fair game and he'd better remember it.

Nice to see DC up there, too.
