2013 JCW Exhaust Tone - Pops/Gurgles

I'm interested in buying a 2013 JCW and have been talking with the dealer. They said the new 2013 JCW doesn't have the pops/gurgles of the exhaust that the older models had, because of the new engine/tuning. Is this true? Can anyone that's driven or picked up a 2013 chime in?

Honestly it's a deal breaker for me, gotta have the pops/gurgles.

Thanks!

No idea. But I feel like my 2012 doesn't have that much pop/burble. And yeah, it's on Sport Mode.

My 12 does it a lot. In some weather it with be really loud even without sport mode. Some times in sport mode it will actually pop so loud it's more of a backfire. Sounds like a firework exploding.

I read in another post that the 2013 JCW now has the N18 engine. Maybe this has something to do with it, but my 2013 MCS has plenty of pops/gurgles in sport mode.

Yeah I'm not worried about the 2012 because of the new engine update in 2013 I'm worried there may be a change. If the 2013 S has pops though, I think it should be safe (because that's the n18)?

I found this video on youtube of a 2013, and it sounds fine. With a resonator gone it'd sound great:

Yes! The 2013 JCW DOES have the pops. I test drove a 2013 JCW Coupe in December and heard the pops when I was downshifting and remember as I asked the MA what that was. He told me that it is normal was a huge deal for many Mini owners as Mini had gotten rid of it a while back and customers complained so Mini brought it back and currently has no plans to get rid of it again.

Yes, my 13 has the pops with the sport button activated. How much pops compared to an older JCW or S? I'm not sure as I've never owned one. Without sport mode on, there's pretty much no pops.

Hi,
I have a 2013 JCW HT, and while in sports mode, there are LOT'S of pops and gurgles. It sounds amazing. Sometimes it sounds like a tiny backfire. I LOVE the sound! You WILL NOT be disappointed!

once you remove the resonator, it'll sound completely different, in a good way. I barely use Sport mode with my AP, but the pops are very loud and if the A/C is on, it sounds like a gunshot/firework. I enjoy it alot, but I don't know how it sounds to the car driving behind me.

I have a JCW R58 Coupe and while yes, it does pop/gurgle (more so in Sport Mode, and when shifting from 2nd>3rd and 3rd>4th with a quick clutch), I wouldn't mind just having a bit more tone to the idle. Is removing the resonator a good solution for this?

On my R55 Clubman I had a DP, removed the resonator, hollowed out the 2nd CAT, and removed the mufflers. It was a BEAST but way way way too loud and too much exhaust fumes. So I am wondering what removing the resonator on my coupe will sound like?

Honestly I didn't really notice a difference in sound when idling after I removed the resonator. I kinda wish mine was louder, but the pops/gurgle I get from driving make up for it.

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using NAMotoring

Just removed my resonator on my 12 JCW Coupe. Sound great. Feels like I lost some top end. ( 90+ )

I'm liking the sound. I'll try to get some video in the next day or so.

After about 600 mile, I heard my '13 JCW pop with sport button on. It's been popping away since then :-)

My '13 S has the JCW Stage 1 kit (I know, not the same but still an N18), and it popps a lot in sport mode. On a downshift, I occasionally see 5 or 6 of them.

The N18 engine found on the Cooper S and 2013 JCW pops and bangs like crazy - way more than the old N14 which mainly gurgles in comparison. It's designed for if you do or don't like them as if you turn sport mode off it won't pop at all I had a friend with decat JCW N14 and he couldn't get the same pops you do on the N18..

How many miles do you have on your JCW? I didn't hear any pops and burble when I am on sport mode with my 1,325 miles JCW. Do I need to put more miles to hear the pops?

Is yours a 2013 too? I only have about 1,200 or 1,300 miles too, but it has popped since new.

Yes I have a 2013 and I followed the break in process per owners manual and no sport mode on that time.
