Difference between European vs. American JCW

Waiting on my 2013 JCW, i've been looking at the different mods possible. While i've settled on an alta accessport as my first mod, i have been wondering wheter this mod will actually make up for the hp drawdown of the north american jcw vs its european counterpart.

Does anyone have any info as to what is the 10hp difference made up of? Is it merely ecu mapping or should i look into other mods?

I hate to burst you bubble but the AccessPort will not work on the 2013 JCW. MINI updated the JCW for 2013 to the N18 engine (used in the Cooper S since 2011) which Alta does not support and currently has no plans to support in the future.

What 10hp difference? The Euro model (UK anyway) is listed at 211, the US is listed at 208.

That's a BIG bubble burst. In a certain era, bad things would happen to someone bearing such news! From their site I gathered the JCW models were ok, but the MCS weren't.

You are right, I had the hatch new engine numbers confused with the r60’s.

Check the site again. I inquired about the 2013 JCW a few days ago and the next day the site was update to separate out the 2009-2012 JCW and the 2013+ JCW. No AP for the 2013 due to the engine change from N14 to N18 with Valvetronic variable valve timing (upgraded version of the engine used in the MCS since 2011 which the Alta AP also does not support).

Check this tread:

Don't know if it works on the JCW but it seems to be worth checking into.

They supposedly can't tune the newer ECUs with different encryption after February 2012 build dates yet, but they can tune the N18. So that's a promising sign for future tune availability for the 2013 JCW. There are very few on our shores yet, so hopefully once we get some of them on the road, the tuners will step up.

Why mess with the ECU, why not just do a turbo to cat replacement, that's said to add 8-10 hp, maybe even get that companies complete exhaust system. Do a change of the turbo pipes, forget what they're called. Doing the exhaust and turbo inlet/outlet pipes should gain at least 15-20 hp and lots more torque. Torque is where it's at anyway. And forgot, the intercooler change to Helix.
