Cloth vs Leatherette on 2011/2012 JCW with a DOG
I don't think you can go wrong with either cloth or the leatherette. I have cloth on my JCW and Leatherette in my Volvo and don't think one is better than the other. However, in all fairness the dogs never get onto the leatherette and stay in the cargo area in the Volvo. I would certainly be concerned about nail punctures in leatherette, our dogs are 95lbs and 155lbs respectively. One thing I like with the JCW is the back cargo protector and the boot box that makes it flat with the seats down. (Available through your Mini dealer.) The cargo protector is a plastic covered canvas thing that goes over the back it works great for the dogs. It attaches behind the head rests with the back seats down and suction cups onto the windows so that it stays in place and even rolls down over the bumper to protect that from dog nails. Somewhat pricey but worth it's weight in gold in my eyes. With English Mastiffs we need all the cargo room the Mini has to offer.
Having a dog that rides in my car ALOT and she's long haired at that, I wouldn't have cloth seats. Regardless of how much you vacuum and clean them, hair just doesn't come off easily. Not to mention if you put a cover over cloth seats that has dog hair on it, it's almost like the hair gets embedded in the seats. Also, another thought. I'm sure you know what dried dog drool looks like on cloth, kinda gross.
BTW, cute Shar Pei! A friend of mine has a grey one (I'm sure there's a technical name color). And, kudos for the harness. My 4 legged passenger is 7lbs and has a car seat that seat belts in and harnesses her in too.
