'11JCW- 350 Miles: Too soon to hear exhaust pops w/Sport Button?

Per title-only 350 miles--not hearing much, if any, exhaust "popping" in Sport mode. Maybe I got spoiled by my '05 MCS with Magna Flow exhaust, talk about "popping"!! Will more miles bring about more "popping"? Thanks for feedback. Nick

I have a 2009. I did not hear much at all until I got a RMW tune. I think that Mini has tuned out the pop and burble for mainstream buyers... but you can tune it back in. But I found that mini won't tune it to do that even if you ask them. Only factory maps will be installed. You will have to go with a custom tune if it doesn't do it on its own.

I have a '11 JCW with less than 325 miles on it and last week while cruising in the parking lot of work in first gear. I heard a 'pop' that came from the exhaust. I was in Sport Mode also. I didn't know the popping was a desire.

Mine (2011 JCW) had over 600 miles on it before I noticed any exhaust popping that I could hear well.

Please tell me what you mean by neutral gear. I understand neutral--are you saying you shift it into neutral as you downshift and prepare to stop? Thanks for clarifying.

Best pops when you take foot off gas pedal completely after reving 4k or higher.

I think I was hearing P&B straight off the dealer lot.

Mine's been a popin' since day one, but it's definitely more pronounced now.

The factory exhaust tone and crackle get louder as the cars builds up miles. I've had two JCW's, trust me on this.

I trust you. I am begining to hear some crackle--just over 450 miles. I probably got spoiled by my '05MCS with a CAI and Magna Flow exhaust--it was pure music to my ears. I want to stay stock and will be patient.

Thanks for the tip!

I thought mine was getting louder, I'm at 7000 miles.

The more miles you put on him, the more you will notice the pop. Mine didn't have much when new, but after about 2k I started noticing it. Now, after 5K the pop is very noticeable, especially when shifting between gear changes.

Mine did it the first day a brought it home. When I have the sport button on it is really pronounced. Tonight with just over 300 miles on it I notice it doing it with out the button on.

Mine did it from brand new, now with just short of 10,000 miles it has completely gone, which is fine with me. Feels like maybe its getting broken in. Lately, over the last 1,000 miles, the car feels stronger and mpg has gone up. I've had the accessport tune for several monthes now.

I was told the access port tunes the burble and pop out. Once you put it on the car you no longer have it.

A little update:1,100 miles. Definitely hearing more pops/burbles and the exhaust sounds meaner. Makes me smile. Hope it continues. My name is Nick and I am an exhaustaholic.

At around 5K I noticed that the gas mileage improved about 10%. Also, with the Sport button on, the performance seems more intense. Almost feels like the old SSD/A days on the drag strip.

What does depressing the "SPORT" button actually do? I really feel a huge difference with the button on. Increase boost?

NO. Sport button changes the throttle response characteristics (and to me makes it much easier to take off smoothly from a stop), and alters the steering feel by adding some pressure. It does not increase boost or horsepower.

So its okay to just leave it on all of the time with no added stress to the motor/car? This is the first car that I've driven that you can actually feel something by pressing a button. Thank You for the information....

Most of us turn it on every time we start the engine. I agree, it makes it easier to start the manual tranny car from a stop. I doesn't affect fuel use, etc.

1500 miles and the sound keeps getting louder as mile go on. Always use sport mode.
