New Mods - AccessPORT & JCW Intake w/ filter
Yes - I went from the stock flat panel to the JCW kit intake with the cone filter.
It took me about 30 minutes to install. Wish they'd just put this one on in the first place, but what do I know.
I'm just glad that they used the correct strut brace when I ordered my car. I'm told that there are two, and that one doesn't have enough clearance for the JCW intake. Mine had plenty, although I had to snake the intake in when I intalled it - I didn't have the tools to remove the strut bar.
Any way, don't know if there is any performance gain, but it sounds a bit beefier upfront (I think). The AccessPORT really gives the car some oomph.

I was thinking of doing the same. I wonder if the cone filter provides more flow?
Where did you buy your intake from?
Do you live in Dallas? If so check out metroplexmini.org. Great site for local Mini enthusiasts.

I bought it from Sheri at MINI of Dallas. She ordered it and it came in within about 3 days. You have to order the replacement intake which just drops in in place of the factory one, and a rubber gasket.
Everything including tax was around $300 including the MM discount.

The Factory JCW has the same intake as a Cooper S as far as I know - with the flat panel filter.
I replaced that stock intake, with the flat panel filter, with the dealer installed kit's JCW intake - which has the cone filter. The filter box itself is larger than the stock box.
I took this picture from Way Motor Works website where they sell the dealer intalled kit's JCW intake. You take off the top section of the stock box and replace it with the JCW intake top section along with a thick rubber gasket.

I've got a stock 2009 Astro Black JCW. All the packages, with factory NAV. I got it in July 2008.
The only things I've added are the MINI short antenna, the AccessPORT tune, the JCW intake from the dealer installed kit, and soon to add the stiffer Alta spring for the BOV.
The AP makes the car scream. Where I used to have hesitation from a standing start, the car gets moving quickly. The car pulls strong in every gear. It pushes me back into my seat now where prior to this I didn't get that sensation. After the BOV spring, I'm done with mods for a while.
This is my fourth MINI, having had a 2003, 2005, and 2006 MINI Cooper S. I'm going to be keeping this one for a while. Only have 15K miles on it at the moment.

I definitely agree about the AccessPORT. I'm running the stage 3 tune and it's insane.
It pulls off the like like mad and down shifting at speed for a quick burst of passing power will have you pressed back into the seat.
I can't imagine driving my JCW without it at this point.

Just wondering since I'm running the Stage 1 92 octane map on mine, and only experimented with the Stage 1 92 octane linear map - which I didn't like as much as the regular Stage 1 map. I also continue to press my sport button on every ride, as I did before the AP. I like the tighter steering, and the car feels more responsive with it pressed, even with the AP.
Thanks

Do you have the aftermarket intercooler, exhaust, etc. for the Stage 3, or are you running the Stage 3 on a stock setup?

I didn't like the linear maps either so I'm using the regular 92 octane maps. I've tried all three and each makes more power as you go up. I also press the sport button every time. It's habit now!
I need to buy the mod that puts it into sport mode automatically when the car is started.
I do have the NM charge pipes and the NM torque arm bushings, as well as coilovers with lower control arms and a thicker swaybar. The bushings and suspension upgrades REALLY cut down on torque steer. When I was running with the stock JCW suspension and nothing else, the first time I loaded the stage 3 map the power was so high that the torque steer really took me by surprise and the wheel nearly got away from me.
Hold on tight if you load it and decide to go WOT on takeoff!
I'd say the suspension/bushings were necessary more so than clutch upgrades. At the very least I'd recommend to buy the NM bushing for sure. Helps a lot to reduce torque steer.
I'm waiting to install the Helix intercooler and then the best way to get power for your car specifically is to have a custom tune done. Hopefully I can get that done this summer some time. The AP canned tunes are good but they can't compare to a custom tune.
I didn't upgrade the clutch or flywheel. The AP adds impressive power, especially the stage 3 map, but I don't think it's enough to overwhelm the stock clutch/flywheel. So far it grips fine.

It's pretty interesting that the stock car clutch/transmission can handle Stage 3.
Which bushing from NM did you get? On their website, I can do a search for bushings, but when I click to see info/buy, the bushing page I click on is coming up blank...
If you have a link, that would be awesome.
I got mine from Way Motor works:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/nm-engi...nt-insert.html
It's an easy install if you have a torque wrench and some jack stands. There's even a thread here somewhere that gives a step-by-step on how to do it with pictures.
It's a really good and cheap mod that makes a big difference in how your Mini will feel afterward.

I can relate!
I think this will be my next mod: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...heck-this.html
Looks pretty easy, not too expensive, and the results seem impressive.

If not, it looks like DoS just released a similar product.

I didn't end up doing it after reading through this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...bov-valve.html
DoS is selling the Way Motor Works DV which isn't an upgrade for the JCW, unfortunately. I think I may try the Alta spring upgrade or the Forge that WMW sells:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/forge-blow-off-valve.html
The spring is a lot cheaper so I may go that route for now.
There is no thoughts... just get it.... I believe there is a return policy...
But I don't think I have heard anyone returned it..
